Tim - many thanks for this detailed photo of the davits. The Lindberg kit version uses an angled pully-rope piece that attaches to the end of the davit and glues to the boat. I'm wondering if this horizontal beam with the pulleys that is shown in your photo was also used on the Nantucket? Decent pictures are hard to come by!

I will have to take a closer look at some of the ship's photos at this point. I would imagine that the line would have to attach to a pulley of some kind on the boat as well.

My pleasure. I have one more pic of the Chesapeake:

I wish I has taken more!

I decided not to go with the tackle setup that the kit offered.I would like to thank Tim for sharing the three photos of davits and tackle to me!

Instead, I used 2mm blocks, wire and thread for my tackle. I drilled a fine hole through the top of my davits and also into the bow and stern of the whaleboat.

Used Ca glue on the small wire rings for the boat's bow and stern. I then used the wire to make a couple of hooks. I ran black thread thru the blocks until the lines were tight. I then hit them with a dab of CA glue to hold in place. Blocks were painted a flat brown. Not sure if this came out for the better or the worse, but I will do the same for the port side lifeboat as well.

Thanks Mark - I thought I'd try to give it a little extra look on the tackle. I appreciate the kind words

I have finally finished adding all of the deck parts (minus flag poles on bow and stern) to the ship. The poles seemed too large in scale and the plastic flags were too thick. I cut off the flags and sanded down the flag poles. I will try to find some 1:95 or 1:96 scale flags to work with. I want to thank Tim Reynaga for sharing three pictures of boat davits from a light ship. They inspired me to create my own and discard the plastic rigging.
My next step is to complete the rigging lines and antenna wires. After that, it will be my 1st attempt at creating water effects inside the base. Here are a few pictures of my current ship:

Tim - I'm having some trouble with photo format. As you can see, some of my posts show large size photos, but lately they come out much smaller. Any suggestions as to what I am missing or doing incorrectly with my pictures? Thanks!!! Also, have a good weekend!!!

Suggest you download a free copy of "Gimp", a free Photoshop look-alike app. It is a full featured photo editing software but still very usable for beginners. It will easily allow you to rotate, lighten and resize you photographs. If you size them between 600 and 800 horizontal dpi you will have perfectly sized photos for webpage publishing.

If you should choose to download this app feel free to ask questions about basic functionality.

It looks, Robert, like the photo links you are using are displaying thumbnails, rather than the photo itself. If you were hosting in the Kitmaker Gallery I would know how to fix that, but not sure with the third party hosting. I'm trying an experiment with your photos:

Okay, so on your image site if you click "Share" it will bring up a list of links. You want to copy the "Direct Link". Then when you are posting, click the "{img}" button (last one on the right just underneath the Reply text box, and paste the link between "{img}" and "{/img}" (I've substitutes braces for brackets so I don't confuse the html handler). You basically want to replace "http://put.url.here/image.file" with the link from the image site.

I hope that helps.

By the way, I love how your lightship is turning out. Do you plan to put some wear and tear on it?

Mark C - I'm terrible when it comes to computers! LOL I am the Cro-Magnon of Technology, but I will try to use your method on my next post.
I have used some subtle weathering on the structures, boats and hull but, looking at my photos, I think I will do some upgrading on the weathering. Being a USCG ship, I would think that the crew had plenty of time on their hands to keep the ship in a fair condition.
I just ordered the book "Lightships of Cape Cod" for some history and reference with the photos included in this book. I'm hoping it will give me some tips on what they looked like at sea.

1st off - my apologies to Mark for not being able to find "Share" on my download site for pictures. I want to thank him for trying to help me along with posting.
With that, here are some pictures of my nearly finished light ship. My EZ Line should arrive this week and I will finish adding the radio wires to the beacon towers to finish up the rigging.
My wife reduced and printed out my US Jack and American flags to be used on the bow and stern.
This weekend I will try my hand on creating my 1st water effect ocean for the base. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks to my wife's skills with miniatures, she reduced and printed the US Navy Jack and American flags for my light ship. The one-piece plastic staff and flag looked too thick and out of scale. I removed the flags from their staffs; sanded them to reduce their thickness; and drilled holes thru them to run my line.
I cut our my paper flaags and glued a slightly smaller piece of tinfoil to the inside of one half of flag. Spread more white glue mix and placed line down the middle and then folded the other half together. While still damp with the glue, I then shaped the flags to give the appearance of wind blowing thru them.
Note: the measurement of the Jack flag is 0.5" x 0.625", not 0.64" as written on the paper notes.

Maybe a little off-topic but were you aware that the owner of the lightship has put her up for sale? Here's a link to the ad dated February 20, 2019:

If the link doesn't work just search Facebook for Nantucket Lightship. It popped up on my phone last week.

BTW - Your ship looks fantastic.

Well, I got quite a bit accomplished over this weekend. I installed my radio wires between the beacon towers using rust colored EZ Line. I glued ship to it's base and started in pouring my plaster of Paris into the base. I did a total of three layers , allowing each one to dry before adding the next. I then broke out the paints and did my base colors. I will let everything dry overnight and then I will be adding Vallejo's Atlantic Blue gel to bring up the water line.

My wife reduced and printed out a small craft warning flag so I can add this to the forward beacon tower's rigging.

I have come to the end of my journey with this kit. This lightship build gave me the experience in working with LED lighting and creating a diorama ocean scene for the base.

To create my water, I used three thin layers of plaster of Paris; painted with acrylics using a dark blue with black mix for base coat; applied layers of Vallejo Atlantic Blue Gel to form the ocean swells; applied the details on the waves by using green, blues and whites. Finished up by applying two coats of Liquitex Gloss Varnish.

I would like to say thank you to everyone who has followed along with my build, who have been kind enough to offer me suggestions and tips along the way. Thank you so very much!

Here are a few pictures of my completed Nantucket lightship:
