hello,

I'm building a neger german pocket submarine.
Well, it's a k7e torpedo converted into a sub with an other K7e torp attached under it.

The kit is from Ironside, and the scale is 1/35th. There's short-run soft styren plus resin in the box. It's far from perfect but it could be far worth!

My problem is I have very little info about the color of this sub. So, can anyone help me ?

I know what it is that you are talking about but I've never seen a drawing in color. John Snyder at WEM is an expert and hopefully he'll give you the exact info. If it were me, I'ld paint it with Model masters swartzgrau #2094. This is the bottom color used on the U'boats

WEM = White Ensign Models....John Snyder works there. He knows Naval colors. He will then tell you which WEM paint color is perfect for it. Being in France you can probably get those paints a whole lot cheaper. One other thing you could do is post on the Modelwarships web site in their forum...probably a few guys over there that'll know for sure. But, I'll bet I'm right with my color choice.

Hi Penpen

Sorry for answering only now, but I was off for some time!
Just a little input, appart from Blaster's comment.
The neger can be painted in two schemes:
a dark grey or a greenish/blueish grey.
It depended on the actual base from where the K-Verband was operating, beeing the most usual the dark grey version.
Pictures from "Midget Submarines" and "Underwater Warriors", both by Paul Kemp, show them in a dark and bad weathered / dirty outfit.
I also have built the Ironside Neger and you can check it on the Gallery if you want...

You're right, it's not the best Neger on the market, beeing the Verlinden's one much better, including the torpedo attached.
JF-Models of Germany also make the Neger follow ups, also in 1/35: the Marder (beeing able to dive) and the super sized Hai (with extra bateries, making it a longer Marder)
If you have any other question, please, ask!!
Best regards from Lisbon, Portugal

Thanks skipper, that's a beautiful neger you've built !
I intend to represent the one beached at Anzio, Italy.
Do you have an idea of the scheme to use then ?

Thanks for the nice compliment, Penpen!

I only try to have fun builiding, painting and weathering my models - they are my escape from daily stress!!

For the Anzio dio of the Neger, I have two books at home with different pictures of the same Neger, been looking after by a US soldier...
If you aren't in a rush for painting the Neger I can reply to you in an accurate way tomorrow or tonight!
But, if my memory isn't jocking with me, I'll say it's the lighter shade of grey.

Best regards,

Rui (aka Skipper)

Pepen...

I forgot to tell you that in these pictures that I mentioned, the "torpedo sight" - the little antena shaped piece in front of the dome, is bend to port...

I realy have to look

The torpedo itself could be of the same color of the Neger or painted "torpedo like" - the warhead could be in brass or white and red (practice), the battery module in grey or metal (humbrol 11) and the propeler area in brass or steel
