Does anyone know if there are any other manufacturers out there that currently (or plan to) put out a Coontz Class DDG, besides the resin one Commander Series is coming out with (possibly in July 2005)?
I want to do a model of the ship my best friend was on back in the 80's...the USS Preble DDG-46...but don't want the tenative $280.00 (or so) price tag attached to the pending resin kit...are there any other options...I've seen a scratch built "Preble", but I'm no where near talented enough to do that without mass reference materials and/or blueprints, measurements, etc.....

I search of tridenthobbies site yielded a number of DDG boat one of which could be a Coontz 'Class boat. You have to check the profiles of the ship to convert it.
I'm have to convert a one LST to another.
Here is a pic of your boat.

Dave,
All I can see is the dreaded red X...I'll try to search Trident Hobbies site to see if I can come up with the boat you're speaking of...I know there is a model of a DDG called the USS King...I think, but it isn't the same class and I haven't enough experience with ships to know what changes to make in order to make it a Coontz class...I'll check it out though...thanks.

Thanks Dave...I did find some useful information, however it conflicts with some I already had...which was that DDG-46 was a Coontz Class guided missle destroyer...the infor on this site says it was a Farragut Class...once I nail that down for sure, I should be able to head in the right direction...
...anyone know of a Farragut Class Destroyer kit just in case that is the case? Any scale will do...

Yep I saw they were two different classes, the one you had listed and the one the site had listed. I didn't give that much thought as DDG-46 is DDG-46 and what ever sister ships she had would look the same or be real close. I found some DDG from a later class but nothing from this one, so far. Should be one one there somewhere.
I never did find a Coontz Class series of boats. Not saying they wasn't one I just never found it. Well as I ook for the boats I'm going to do I'll keep an eye out for your's.

I seem to remember my brother finding a model of the Preble, he also served aboard her during the 80's. The model he bought was a wooden hull with white metal parts. I'll have to ask him where he got it.

Lenny,
That would be great! I had a buddy that served...this would be a gift for him once I find and build one. There is a resin one due out in July this year I believe, but it will likely have a price tag of over $250 from what I read a couple months ago.
