Well, little sister came through and ebayed the Nimitz from Sprue Bros. She was quite impressed with their service, and totally blown away by the size of the kit. I found out Gold medal models did release a PE set for it, but I haven't found a dealer that carries it. Figure Roll will pick it up shortly as they carry all the other GMM brass. This is one serious kit guys. Each aircraft is a kit unto itself, even more parts than the ones they have for the Essex nd Hornet. I don't have a clue what I'm gonna do for space with this one, the Enterprise, and the 72nd scale U-boat. I've got space for the Bismarck I plan to do as I gave my nephew my Tirpitz for Christmas. He was more excited about the candy bar I gave him with it than the ship.....sad sad sad When I was 11 I'ld have been totally blown away by a model like that.

What scale is it? I can't believe the individual aircraft need assembly too.

Yes, the Nimitz! My favorite carrier! Can you say The Final Countdown!
For those too young to remember that movie, well, let's just say that our first nuclear powered aircraft carrier had a starring role!!
You must post pics as you progress please.
Good Score!

.... a nuclear powered aircraft carrier named after a serving, living admiral, that almost would have singlehandedly destroyed the Japanese attack aircraft at Pearl Harbor 1941if not for that storm!!
(Waiting for you history buffs to go crazy with that one!!)

Regarding the Trumpeter Nimitz - I already peecked into the box...... I am glad I only (mainly) make subs!
The Mrs would love another full collections of Trumpeter AC at home :-)

It looks great and with excellent details

actually the first Nuclear carrier was the Big E, CVN65 USS Enterprise.
which btw also starred in a movie - Star Trek V if I'm not mistaken.

It'll be a while before I get to this baby ! I am just getting started on the king-sized Type VII for the dive campaign. Gotta 5-6 day weekend coming up...should be enough time to cut away the lower sections for those modelbrass pieces and evaluate all the round pieces to see if I need to order the works from Steve .
