Ditto!
The end of the submarine campaign was bitter-sweet for me.

yup.. I never really knew him, not even on this board... but his enthousiasm made me decide to go for a big ship...
In a way it feels kind of hard to say: "I miss him..." yet somehow there is a void... I do know it was a treat to see his models...
Harm.

I miss him too. Garry and I chatted almost every night. He was a good man and friend. I have all his completed models. His son Albert got to most of them and played with them but a few escaped his wrath. If you guys would like any pic's of them let me know.

I may not know him that much but I miss him, too. He was one of the first people who PMd me welcoming me to Armorama.
God speed, Garry.

I stil have some trouble with the fact I talked to him over msn about 5 - 6 hours before he died.....so unbelievable how fast it was all over.
His models are real good, especially if you think he handpainted everything! I mean...man.....painting such large surfaces by hand. An artist he was!
And his enthousiasm on armorama.....I miss his posts very much!
It sucks he can't see how I finished the VIIIC....he talked me into building it (I first didn't wanted to built it because it isn't a cheap kit.....2 - 3 armour models for the same money)
Good model-on-display feature. A nice tribute to Garry!
Thanks,
Martin

A great modeler and a great man himself. I can still remember my posts back in the Warship forum... he was so helpful.

Ray,
if possible I would like to take you up on the offer... I am going to build the King George V, and if I got the gist of the forum posts, Garry built one himself. Unfortunately, the pictures are gone...
If this is true, is it possible to have some pictures of his model?
Thanks in advance,
Harm
PS. I do know that I would have looked forward to his advice....

Howdy Harm,
Garry did build the KGV. In fact, It's his best work in my opinion. Well, Atleast after Albert got his hands on most of the others. Anyway, I uploaded some pic's of her in my workbench page here. http://photos.kitmaker.net/showgallery.php/cat/500/ppuser/6665
I'm not much of a photographer. LOL. I know Garry would forgive me. There is alot of dust on her. Out of all his completed models this is the only one claimed by one of his friends. I just haven't figured how to ship her to him yet. I'm not gonna clean it. I'm giving him that honor. Atleast I'd want to do it myself anyway.
Garry's legacy here and at his other haunts was his ability to make us each feel a part of something. He gave the only means he had by helping and encouraging others. For those of you that knew him, you know he was a good man. Our obligation to him as his friends is to carry on his giving personality and help each other to become better modelers. It's good to see that here on Armorama. If you need any more pic's let me know.

Hi Ray,
thank you very much... I have taken the liberty to copy them to my computer.
It seems that he used PE on this kit (or did he scratchbuild the crane). The can/will be a lot of help... even though mine will be of a different era.
Yesterday I received the White Ensign set for this kit.... which made me wonder what I have gotten myself into... Two more weeks, and the keel will be layed down...
As an idea for transporting the model, the only solution I have come up with is construct a wooden box, big enough to fit the whole ship in. Then on the bottom some plugs/jig that fits (sections of) the keel, and then some kind of clamp that fits on top of a deck-section to keep it from moving around in the box.
I know, a lot of work, but I can not think of a better solution...
Thanks a lot, and hope I'll do him proud with my ship...
