Ok, taking a little bit of everyone's advice, this is how the Kilo looked as of last night. This morning I felt that the most noticable lightened areas in this photo were just that, too noticable, so I toned them down a bit. In addition, I went back over the the lightened areas along the hull with dry brushed flat balck to give it a more mottled and random fade as was suggested. I also began placing areas of rust along the hull, but again, this morning I thought I may have over done it so I dry brushed them with flat black and it blended rather nicely and and gave the impression of subtle rusting. ( happy accident).

I'm not sure how this photo will come out on here. On the screen here at work it seems much darker than at home, so I'm not sure how much you'll be able to see.

These might be a little better than last photo.

Hey Steve

Looks just fine to me.....but I'm missing decals? You should add decals before weathering and the sub looks like you've done some weathering already

Just a thought

HI Martin,

Yes you're right, I have done some weathering and I shouldn't of have done it before the decals were in place. I guess you could say I sort of got caught up in the moment. However, I think I can go back in a re-spray the areas where the decals are suppose to be and then hit with gloss and then decal and re-weather.

HEY! BTW, I really like how your Tiger turned out. I love the shade of the dust and mud you chose.

Ahoy there Steve!!

I think that your work has paid off!
It's a very good looking Kilo! And about the decals, since they are only white lines, consider painting them?

Just pushing you

I noticed there's a lot of people building subs, I'm so jealous because ships are me, what I mean is, I was a naval person and I just love warships. I just don't have the skills to make them.

Anyway, what I wanted to tell you all is, there's a great new game out called Silent Hunter 3 for your computer. You'll need a pretty strong CPU to play it because the ocean state is almost as real as it can get. I mean, its fantastic. As a seaman recruit, I spent a lot of time doing look out watches and I have no problem at all in this game doing the same, its just that beautiful. The only thing is, you don't get flying fish or little squids up in the conning tower after a storm.

There's a web site, just do a google search for Silent Hunter 3 and watch some of the videos they have, you'll be amazed. If you have any questions, feel free to Email me, I'll be glad to help.

Ahoy JBoilard!

This sub building "boom" it's only the ripples of Warships area most recent Campaign "Dive! Dive! Dive!".

I can say that most part of the participants never build a sub before and now they are hooked on them (hhihihihi) :-)
So you can try and pic one and build it - it's easy and if you need any help, there are here a lot of members who will help you - just don't say you don't have the skills to
Give it a try Mate! I am also a former Naval person and I really understand what you say - I miss the Ocean and the Oceans's smell and "rocking" - although I live 200 meters from the Atlantic Ocean, it's not the same

Go for it! If you'll need help choosing a easy model, ask

hehehehehehehe Well after reading everyone elses problems with the white rings on the deck, I'd thought about painting those. Now for the sounding marks..(that is what they're called right?)..I will use the decals.

As always Skip, thanks for the push and the kind words.

The white rings are actually very light gray
I painted mine as well as the docking sign (the red and white crossed circle)....
If it was today I would not use any of the decals
(pushing you a little further)

Thanks Skipper, I'll get one, soon, I'm seeing so many of them showing up at model shows, I'm getting the "itch". I've only put out a few figures in the past 15 years, um, 4 to be exact. I bought a few battle ships from Tamyia, the 1 350th jobbers. I got the Bismark and the Missouri. When I'll start them, I don't know. I've got a lot to learn and THIS is deffinately the place to hang out and absorb. Thanks for the confidence booster brotha!

Hang on to one of those battlewagons. You can do it for the Dreadnaught campaign this...is winter or fall?

Anyway..hang onto one.

And get ya a submarine...we're going to do DDD2 come hell or high water...

Which reminds me fellas...what about setting up DDD2 to end on the anniversary of Garry's passing?

Off to confront Monday.

Couldn't agree more on this Steve!
March 25th would be a good ending date! And let's say... three months building period?
From Xmas to 25th March?

That's why we are here!
To help others and make this a fun hobby! We can learn a lot, teach a lot and still have lots of FUN!

Regarding the Bismark and Missoury, IMHO, I'll only would tackle them after making some more easy and "fast" ones (like a submarine) and try some techniques, almost like a test bed for future more important projects

Motivation is always a must, and you don't want to get stuck by lack of it - here is also a good source for motivation!

Count me in for DDD2. There will be some overlap with Dreadnaught, and I KNOW that one is going to take some time for me, but having done one improved LA Class, I should be able to do the second one much faster.

If DDD2 has the proposed schedule, we'll actually have THREE active ship campaigns going at the same time!!

Yes Tom, you're right!

But I think that, if needed, any other campaign could be extended although they are already very long Campaigns (6 months each!)
