The USS Pampanito is a fleet type submarine built in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, New Hampshire in 1943. She is a BALAO class submarine with a "thick skin" of high tensile steel which offered a greater diving depth than the earlier GATO class subs.
Pampanito is a survivor of six war patrols in the Pacific during which she sank six enemy ships totaling over 27.000 tons.
Pampanito has been restored to her original WWII configuration and is open to the public in the Pier 39, San Francisco, California, USA.
Hope you like it - I sure did

Excellent photos Skip!
I'm really glad that you took that detail shot of the hydrophones and the Orlikon. Wish I could go see it.
This will come in handy for the next Lionfish converted to a Balao.
As a historical aside, for those of you who may recall the photos I posted of Frank Sennello's hand carved submarine models, Frank played an active and a large role in the preservation of the Pampanito. In addition when he was featured on the History Channel's production of "Silent Service" the interview was conducted at the radioman's position (Frank's old job) on the Pampanito.
For those of you new to this forum and would like to see Franks boats, here's a link.
