Howdy fellow 'Nam modelers

As maybe a couple of you are aware, I have already started a project for this Campaign loosely pertaining to something called a 'Tango' Boat / Monitor Boat Project. These efforts are ongoing, and will be part of my entry for this Campaign.

But....I have also stumbled across an old kit (of this re-relaesed kit) that I've recently acquired an appetite for that I found in a local hobby shop that I don't usually frequent. It is the old Revell kit #5020 of the USS Defiance Coastal Patrol Gunboat of the Ashville Class of warships which I picked up for only $12.00.... I have always found this vessel fascinating for any number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that it had accomodations for seat belts during "high-speed operations", and this in a vessel that was a 164 feet long!...

Anyway, I have already built the kit {couldn't sleep, and got up at approximately 3:30AM this morning and built it non-stop } and will be submitting it for entry into this Campaign sometime over the next month or so.........just thought I'd let everyone on the Warships side of the site know that another warship is being built out there!

Believe this is the kit that Tread has.

And some more box art:

Good looking ship. Can't wait to see the model, Tread. Now get back to work on the Tango boat and send us some more updates.

Howdy fellas,

Thx for stoppin' by 'Zod, hope to build up a good one even tho' it isn't armour.....

to mother:

The ship is actually what they used to call "box scale" I believe. According to all accounts I can track on the kit it works out to 1/131st scale believe it or not!.....
It is a sweet little kit that was super fast {for me} to build. There weren't that many parts, and the flash was managable considering the age of the kit. Decals were usable as well.

to Gino:
That is the kit, but my box art is significantly different because the date stamp on the box itself is 1986. {couldn't find a JPEG of the old box art}.

As I say, I've already got the ship pretty much built {in sub-assemblies for painting purposes} , I just need to put it all together for pics.

Now, any suggestions for vignette settings?? Remember, it's a 164 ft. vessel, with a max. draft of {believe it or not} only five feet!, so a decent amount of settings are possible....

Hey Tread!

I think she'll make a nice boat to add to your collection. I can't wait to see her finished!

Here's a link to her brief history, she had a short life. There's a couple of nice photos along with it.

Take care
eagerly awaiting the Tango

Yep Gordon!

She's a slick looking boat!
IMHO it will look on the stand or in a Dio
For the dio, a high speed situation would be the ideal one - with all the problems associated with making the water!!!

Keep up the Good Work!!
