A few of you may remember me... Most probably won't. :-) But, I'm back into the fine hobby of modelbuilding after a lengthy break, and I'm revisiting the subject that brought me to Armorama for the first time: A World War II era subchaser.

Through events, Rob was kind enough to give me his old 1/74 Glencoe WWI subchaser model that I would use as a base to build the WWII version.

Right now, I'm still trying to gather as much research as possible about this overlooked subject. Here's a collection of links to all of the websites that I've found:

Subchaser.org
US Subchasers of WWI - WW II
Splinter Fleet
Navsource photo archives
Historical data
Info from the South Pacific with some pictures
A history of the splinter fleet
General ship info and some comparisons
History of SC110 from WWI

I'm hoping to generate some interest in the topic, seeing as how Armorama's ship community is larger now than it was 2 1/2 years ago.

I still have a few questions: Anyone else have some info about this subject?
What is the best way / best place to contact for a set of ship plans? There are lots of details that are hard to make out from the pictures.

I'd greatly appreciate any help offered.

Welcome back Yodaman!

I have just been reading your original post and I must say that you almost got everything!
Check this books:

Splinter Fleet: The Wooden Subchasers of World War II

And there's another book that I have at home that included plans - I'll post the name and isbn later tonight

Once again, welcome "home"

Aaaaah Cool

Another regular back.... Have you been graduated now? It was really a long time ago seeing you around here for the last time. I`m afraid I can`t help you much about the Subchasers (you probably know this too) but I only wanted to welcome you back.

Master Yoda,

try the following site; there's no ww2 ship of any nation that isn't at least mentioned. I didn't check for your subject, forgive me, master.

Skipper,

could you transform this into a working link, please ? I'm too stupid ...
In the Soviet sector you'll find (few) info about the Tupolev G-5 and the Bronekater 1125 armored gunboat. And check out the G-6, THIS one is cool. Btw, any new Pictures for me to pillage ?

Ahoi

The Book in question is this:
Patrol Craft of WWII

As you can see in the description, a fold out plan (A3) and several pages of technical drawings, pics troughout the book, make it an excellent source!

Thanks for the links, Skipper! I'll be ordering at least one of those books as soon as my checking account is fully functional. Also, fine job on that patrol boat - awesome detai!

Progress on my model may be a bit slow for a while, but if I make any progress, I'll be sure to post it!

Yes YodaMan, I remember you well. Welcome back. I don't have any answers to your sub chaser questions but I'll be looking forward to seeing you post info on it as you go along.

Hey Joseph...check out Partol Craft Sailors Organization.

My main interest is in WW2 in the gulf of mexico. The US ran alot of sub chasers there. I've got the 1/350 scale PC from iron shipwright on order. Solid resin kit with phot etch. Good kit.

Skipper:

I picked a 1/350 resin PCE at the IPMS Nats.
I've got the Patrol craft book you mentioned, but it really sticks with basic PC's & leave the PCE class out.

Are you aware of any other sources ? If I don't find much, I'll just use the PC Book detail drawings to work on the PCE ....

John, have you looked at the Squadron's book on Patrol Crafts? They had one at the local hobby shop here and it seemed to have a lot of pictures handy for some detail work. Though I'm not sure if it has pictures of what you need.

No updates to speak of yet on the model - I'm still waiting for the final details of my new back account to go through.
