I'm working on the revell 1/72 uboat. I'm going to mount a piece of acrylic at the water line for water. I want to depict the sub in the middle of a duel with an armed merchant ship. How would I create a shell splash, like a near miss?

Hi JL,

there is a fantastic dio - the ship is scratchbuilt - by René Hieronymus on "ModelWarships.com". I think he used cotton for the splashes, but you might want to read the full article. Here you are:

Have fun

Hi JL!
Welcome aboard Armorama!

Although it is not a U-boot, you can check Joseph Neumeyer’s work:

Duel at Sea

It's a 1/72 dio with lots of water!
My guess is some modeling paste like "Das Pronto" or similar air drying paste...

Keep us posted on your updates and don't be a starnger

JL,

are you going to do the merchant ship, too ? If so, I'd really like to see your reference.

cotton looks kinda cheesy. it might be ok to depict 700 scale. I'ld look at woodland scenics company, get their water product and add some white glue to it (Elmers or the like) and try that.

Thanks guys. I'm not doing the merchant ship Frank, at least not in this scale. I'm going to do a 1/400 scale dio with Mirage's Type IXC/40 and the Revell Germany Oil Tanker Glasgow, which as a T-2 tanker. as ship of that type did have a run in with a type IXc/40 in the Gulf of Mexico.
