Im doing my Bismarck for the campaign in 40-41, with the baltic stripes all the way up the superstructure. Am I correct in assuming that the superstructure and upperworks were painted hellgrau, the hull mittelgrau except for the dark bow and stern, and dunkelgrau for the bow and stern. Someone tell me Im wrong. I just spent the better part of the night prepping, painting, and cleaning everything hellgrau50.

My paint scheme is similar to yours. I'm just going with hellgrau and dunklegrau for the colors, and then the white ad black baltic stripes. Refer to the www.kbismarck.com and look at their line drawings. Great reference. There is still debate if the tops of the turrets were red at the time and if they were painted yellow for her final cruise and if the national colors on her stern and bow were red or dark gray

Hi Jeremy,

Superstructure was Hellgrau 50; hull was Dunkelgrau 51. The dark panels at bow and stern were something quite dark, perhaps Dunkelgrau 2, perhaps Schlickgrau 58. Turret tops while in the scheme with the Baltic stripes were Dunkelgrau 2, as were the steel decks. Wood decks were holystoned teak. Boot-topping was Schiffsbodenfarbe III Grau 1, and the underwater hull (if you're building a full-hull model) was Schiffsbodenfarbe III Rot 5. The funnel cap was Aluminumbronze. You'll find all these available in our Colourcoats enamels:

KM 01, Hellgrau 50
KM 02, Dunkelgrau 51
KM 04, Schiffsbodenfarbe III Rot 5
KM 05, Schiffsbodenfarbe III Grau 1
KM 06, Dunkelgrau 2
KM 11, Schlickgrau 58
C 04, Matt Aluminium (same as Aluminumbronze)
C 01, Teak

There is no minimum order on paints, and we ship worldwide.

Cheers,
John Snyder

Do post some photos of your progress. I've read quite a bit on the Bismarck and am aware of its history but havent really seen detailed photos of the model.
