Graham Townsend (Ripster) used Revell Germany''s reboxing of the old Matchbox Flower class corvete as the base for this project. Added some white metal and PE AM sets, lots of work and excellent painting and weathering technique and... see for yourself!

Thank you, Graham, for a really wonderful feature, and for showing us what is possible to re-create in plastic...truly an awesome model, sir, and also a most excellent article...Thanks for putting it up, Skipper!

A very nice job Graham,
My ex-wife bought that kit for me when we we first married. But I no longer have it, one of the numerous casualties. Oh not from the divorce, but Floyd filling my basement....... :-)

Hi all!
Yes, it's a great job Graham made!
I just annouced it
To Dave:
Those were known as "wet ships" so... Sad you lost it, though!
And To All:
Graham asked me what image did I use for the thumbnail... (also added it on the MOD).
It's a colour photograph of a Canadian Flower with some overlaying of one of Ripster's pics.. some resizing, some rotating and here it is - before resizing:
PS: the original picture is from HMCS Arrowhead (taken from Canadian Navy website)

Graham,
I continue to sit amazed by your corvette as I did when the first time you posted it. The attention to detail, the finish, all incredible. Plus, as an added bonus, Skipper's setting it to sea like that...fantastic! Nice job Skip! It looks so convincing!

Thanks to all for the kind words - just the prod I need to get on and actually finish her! It will be two years in Jan 06, so there's a deadline to try and beat...
Also, thanks to Skipper for his photo-shopping, even though he's now come up with a rather curious hybrid ship (I've done too much research and am now getting picky!)

This is truly a masterpiece!!!
I have the same kit lying around, with only a few pieces put together, , and the difference between what I see on my sprues and your finished result is just amazing!!
the wooden deck and the weathering on the ships hull, especially at the waterline is incredible.
I think I don't need to search for any more reference pics.. just found all I need right here on this post!!

You are right to be picky - I WOULD :-)

This is truly one of the most awe inspiring modeling jobs I've ever seen. This site is truly honored to have it displayed here.

Looking at the standard of work on this site that my ship is keeping company with, I have to say I'm pretty flattered by what you people have been saying - thank you again.
We need a 'blushing' emoticon by the way... :-)

Yes I'm hoping to get the U-boat sometime to go alongside her - think they'll look good together. Fit isn't too bad, and you don't actually use much of the Revell kit anyway if you buy all the GLS sets. Only real snag can be mating up some of the PE (which is very accurately made) to the plastic (which isn't)!

Not a chance this time with Rita. She is now the 3rd most power hurricane ever in the gulf. I'm only about 80 miles from Galveston as the crow flies. The storm is 400 miles across. Gonna hunker down and work onmy 1/350 Arizona while the storm passes and the power holds out.
