Since I finally finished my conversion of the Trumpeter Lexington to a 1939/1940 era Saratoga, I thought I'd share a few pictures. The island (except for the spotting top) and 8 inch guns are resin copies from my BWN Lexington. The photo-etch is a combination of the GMM Lexington and the YMW Back-date sets. Planes are ISW and Trumpeter (TBD's only).

The model was delivered to the Battleship New Jersey museum on Wednesday November 2, 2005. It will be part of a display highlighting ships built at the now defunct New York Shipbuilding Corporation. NYSC was located a few hundred feet downriver from where the NJ museum is located.

Some of the more famous ships that came out of the Camden shipyards include Saratoga, the battlecruisers Alaska and Guam, and the battleships Arkansas, Oklahoma and South Dakota (BB-57). However, I don't know what other ship models will be part of the display.

She looks absolutely majestic. Hope my Lex comes out as well. I've got all my goodies and everything has been referenced, so come Jan 1 there will be a launching.

That is really nice work. A very good job. It must really feel special to know your work is going to be on display like that, and for such a good cause.

Well Done.

Hi Martin

Hm Hm - Lady Sara turned out excellent!
It's impressive what a "different" painting scheme (including the airwing) can do to enhance a model!
Is it from my eyes, or is there a Helldiver in the elevator and another one already outside?

Congratulations on a wonderfull model, and for a good cause - maybe I have to convince Mrs Skipper to another "raid" to NJ :-) :-)

I am curious (also) as Dave about the Display Case... Can you help us?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words! Makes 6 months of work worthwhile!

Skip, those are indeed Helldivers from Iron ShipWright. There was supposed to be a 3rd, but the I dropped it right before it was going to be glued to the deck and the wing upper wing broke off

The display case came from Mirco Mark. It's nice - but a little pricey. To make a case for my 1/350 Lexington I actually bought a piece of oak, had the edges routed and then ordered JUST the acrylic top. While it isn't as sharp as the Micro Mark case, it cost me 1/2 the price.

Martin...

One Helldiver down!!! What a shame - but I can say that the deck is packed with the existing airwing and it is not because of one Helldiver that your work is stained
Thanks for the tip on the display case

I have to ask:
Do you have more pictures before enclosing her in the display case?
It would make a nice MOD Feature (hint hint)
What do you say Martin?
Guys, are you with me on this issue?

Skipper
