hey all,

CMK has some kits that could go for the revell U-boat 1/72.
These are compartments that have to be fit in the hull.
N72001, N72002 and N72003 (torpedoroom, commandroom and engineroom)
Has anyone experience withe these?
I have finished a boat and wanted to know if i still can fit these compartments in the boat. Brr i will have to cut in the hull...

Hi Stefan

CMK U-boot compartments are supposed to be added right in the beggining of the built - before you glue the hull halves!
And for your info there's another set (Officers ward rooms and galley )

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=CMKN7205

Although I have none - I opted to do so - from what I have seen they make a wonderfull and very detailed U-boat

hi,

thanks for that info, so you are sure it wont be possible anymore? Sh*t i glued the halves allready.
Im asking again cos the seller (on ebay) tells me i can put them afterwards. I know he has to sell but i want to be sure before i spend that money or...i could buy another boat
it would be my third one.
bye

Do you know of any deals available to the UK? I'd love one of these for the stash but £50 is a bit more than the wallet can stand right now - especially when I consider what SWMBO is likely to blow on Christmas...

Yep I've heard of that deal too - from Hobby Lobby iirc? That's about 1/4 of the UK price! Problem is shipping for such a large kit would probably negate any savings...

Yes, I've bought things cheap overseas only to have the savings wiped out in shipping. About 8-9 yrs ago I buht a computer in the US becasue it was cheap, but whe it hit Aus Customs chargd me $1,000 tariff. I almost had a heart attack and then almost let the country! The worst part is, with the tariff, it was still $800 cheaper and 1 model up from what was available here at the time!!! (Eventually prices dropped and are semi US now).

6 mos ago I bought a VIIC for me mate's Bday, only to find the price had gone UP! since I bought mine many months before. Now they are cheap and Revell has a slight variation, type VIIC/41! I'm stunned! Minor differences, more of an AM kit.

Oh well. I hope you can find a deal.

Hi Guys

I have this week "invested" in this kit I got a real good deal from my LHS. I got 30% of the price for a slightly water damaged box. Kit parts instructions and decals are fine.

I am an armour modeller but I just love those U Boats and thought I would try something different. I am actually really excited about this kit/subject. The kit was my Xmas present to myself. Got to try and get it under my Xmas tree now due to the size of the box LOL

Wink I am eagerly following your progress with keen interest I love your site please keep us informed on progress/updating it. In fact your site and the information contained in it helped me decide to buy the kit.

I would value your advice as you go along with regards to recommended AM enhancements.

Regards

Congrats on a fun purchase, Fordboy! And thanks for the (too) kind words. Glad to help.

Haven't been able to work on it in two weekends (rrrrrr) but hoping to tomorrow. You should have fun, I know what you mean about u-boats!

AM - I needed to strike a budget/desire balance, but that went out the window. Cutting floods and drains was tough on the lower bow and stern, so was forced to get the brass kit for that. That's 3 different brass kits I've got! I think it's possible to live with 2. (You do get some other goodies with that, like a brass deck, which many really like for better scale slots).

If I was doing it again I would stay with the plastic props and try to paint the tarnishing, would be a cheaper way to get same effect.

Not going to extend scopes so didn't get them, or the brass prop shafts, but did get the brass gun barrels (they're semi-cheap and sweet!). With enough PE kits I will jazz up the guns, tho I am tempted to see if I can find complete gun kits...(hold me back).

What sort of armour do you build? A mate is heavily into armour, does WWII and some modern stuff. I love tanks but haven't built one since highschool (a century ago). I read a book on Stalingrad last year and learned some cool stuff about T-52s (cheap, built fast, rounded armour helped German shells bounce off). fascinating.

One could also build the CMK interior kits stand alone. If you put them in and attach the hull which you probably need for support. you 'll either never see them or have to figure a hinge setup to make it work. You will also need to buy the aftermarket Pressure hull kit to depict the top of the nice little interior pieces. I think it is only a matter of time before someone comes out with a clear hull piece.

My wife suggested choosing int. sections and building dioramas, rather than chopping the model. I would actually love to use the torpedo load with an upper deck section and some figures. But that;s a deam, the full boat is taking too much, and I plan on moving o to the Gato when it comes out..all te other dozens of kits on my shelves will have to wait.

But 3 or 5 cool dios of int would be, well, cool!

Hi Wink

I love WW2 German stuff like so many others but after seeing your site, getting this kit and having a look around the net I just love these U Boats. They really are something special and highly addictive.

I hit a real low patch with my modelling but the U Boat "investigation" and subsequent "investment" process really breathed new life into my modelling.

Please keep updating your site I check it weekly its really great.

I know what its like balancing your hobby with work house maintenance/chores etc.

Please feel free to PM anytime.

hi all,

well i bought another one (my third!!, first one i made for my father whos uncle was a commander on a u boat, no worries he was a young kid and never did feindfahrt, only training.Died recently at 80) so the second i will weather severly but for the third one i have big plans:
ordered me the 3 compartments, couldnt find the 4th.and the etched parts
Dont think i will weather it.
@blaster: i will have to cut in the hull, i will not pay 150$ for something you cant see.
No good deals though, 45€ for the boat, 40€ for 1 compartment...
overseas shipping costs to much. to bad,so cheap in usa!!
ill try to join the DDD and post some pix
thanks for the tips, looking forward building it

Hi Fordboy,

I know what you mean about new breath, I'd been out of it except for a scratchbuilt project that went on and on and on for a yr and half. But it's all good now! Do post pics when you get going!

@stefan: yes, which boat.I was going to go Das Boot, u-96, after Iron Coffins went with one from there. I guess check out the history of different boats at uboat.net and see which one interests you! Keep us posted on your choice.
