For the Flatops campaign I'm making the old Revell USS Yorktown CV5 kit. I've attached all the vertical sides to the hull but when I dry fit the flight deck to her I've noticed something strange. At both bow and stern on either side are galleries for the 5 inch AA guns. These look to be totally open the way the kit is set up. Is this right? Shouldn't there be something to close these areas off so you don't look into the empty hull? The way it is now you not only look straight into the hull, but also straight through to the other side. Has anybody built this kit? What did you do to close these areas off?

Well, looking at pictures from Squadron's Carriers in Action vol 1 it appears that it is indeed open. If they don't have a deck across the area, then scratch some, but the areas under the flight deck bow and stern are open
