Here are a few shots of my Arizona in progress. Any comments are welcome. I still have some touch-up to do and all of the sub assemblies are not glued together.

Nice job. Good color on the steel. One thing, the Arizona's big guns didn't elevate independantly. Fix that, and it looks good.

Hi Scott!!!

Long time no see! Welcome back
I see that we are both building the smae subject, but different scale (?) and deffinetly different makers!
I am building 1/700 Dragon Special Issue USS Arizona BB-39

I like it, but your is having the same issue as mine!
I have to break the Dark Gray a little - perhaps I'll drybrush it with a lighter shade of gray...

Keep us posted,
Skipper

Hello Skipper. Yes thats what I have been thinking too. I was also thinking of an oil wash for the deck. I'm almost ready for that. My next joy will be to finish the touch-up painting and then dry brushing the whole thing. I hope to get that done this weekend. D-5 is Dark for sure!

Hi Scott

Yes, some washes and some drybrushing will do it!
But I have to be carefull, so that looks subtle, but enough to break the 5-D

What is the scale and maker of your Arizona?

1/350th Banner / Trumpeter. Its my first 1/350th ship. So its a big leap for me. I'm debating weather or not to rig it. when I get there I will make up my mind.

Oh Skipper Photo 1 around turret #1 there are 4 small items that get attached. They are "winged" things. For some reason in my mind I remember seeing a photo of them as painted white. My directions have no paint call out for them at all. Nor do I have a paint call out for the life rafts at the rear of the ship against the last structure. My library on ships is VERY LIMITED. Do you have any ideas? Thanks very much.

Hi Scott

I know what you are refering (although I don't remember the name in english). In more modern warships (after WWII) they were painted white, but on my resourses with images of the Arizona they look to be painted in 5-D (in the hull/superstucture colour)

Looks very good Scott. I think you've got the color of the dark gray pretty good.

The "winged thngs" you mention are probably the mine parafanes, (sp). They were kind of like underwater buoys that were towed out from the ship to cut off underwater mine cables. I'm not sure what color they would have been but they would want them to be visible from the deck while towing, so white makes sense.

The small AA guns in tubs on either side of the bridge and main mast were 1.1 inch, 37mm, AA guns. These were never installed on the Arizona. The tubs were in place, but not the guns. If you want to you might fill in the hole in the deck where they are supposed to go on the model and leave off those guns.

Looking very good so far. I'm waiting to see her in all her glory.
