Just posted, news of an interesting product line for the Ship Modeler - ''Gator''s Paint masks''. This range of products is designed to simplify such complex patterns on warships such as North Atlantic Camouflage and some of the more eye-catching schemes used in various theaters of war. The full story, including images, can be seen:

Thank you Jim for sharing

Thank you Kenny for the pleasant surprise!
I'll write a built review (or should I say, paint review) after I tried it!

This does look like a great product. Jim or Rui do you by chance know if Gator, or anybody else, does masks like this for the decks? I'm thinking it my be useful to have masks for such things as hatch openings, anchor chain skid plates, etc, for the decks of ships.

Hey Rodger,

I don't have anything like that....yet. Gator's is just a cottage business and most of my mask have come from request like yours. I do make custom mask, and I sell them for what I would once I started stocking them. No set up charge. Just your patience while I fine tune the mask if it doesn't quite fit.

It all starts with you guys. Tell me what you want. I'll ask a few questions, and then....poof! You got it.
If only kit manufacturers worked that way.

Kenny, I've got the 350 scale North Carolina pending. I sure would like to see what you have set up for her. I'm kind of looking at a post war version similar to how she appears now. I've always avaoided fancy paint schemes on these magnificet beasts because of the time and money I've put in and I'm afraid I'll muck it up. But the standard war end scheme gets kind of redundant

Hey Steve,

I don't think a post war scheme would be a problem. Right now she is wearing the camo measure that the Trumpeter kit shows. I have the mask for that. It's real easy to work with.
1. Paint your lightest color first.
2. Pull off the corresponding mask and apply.
3. Paint the next lightest color and apply the mask for that color.
4. Continue with the process until you have all the colors painted on, and then remove the mask.

Easy. Remember, I started doing this because I can't do decals...so it must be easy.

Sounds like my kind of tool. When I get around to the ship I will have to pick it up. I'll be using those L E X ones you made for me shortly
