Hi Gunny!!

Yes, I am in!

During part of the last week (nights) I "hatched" this

It is supposed to be a Fleet Tug!

Skipper

Hey Rui!
That's a fantastic looking hatchling, Skipp! :-)
What scale? Those railings look miniscule, mate!
Gunny

Hi Mark

It is 1/700, it's about 3.2 cm long (a little bit more than one inch!) and it uses Evergreen, wire, streched sprue, an old resin block (pilot house) and some spare 1/700 raillings. The "bumper" is made of Milliput.

It is supposed to be the Fleet Tug on the right side of the double page painting in the Reference book!

I'm impressed! I'm thinking a 1/700 Battleship, like 250cm long, is driving me blind and then I see this. I really gotta get new glasses!

Gunny:

I think I shall call it quits -- there were too many problems that soured me and now I have got other projects on the bench that must get their time.

The NC is still on the bench, but the back side of it. Work will continue, but not at a pace which would be even close by deadline. I might consider entering it in next year's Dreadnought campaign ...

Sorry, no disrespect to the Campaign or Garry, but I think I need to move on. I shall continue to watch the progress of everyone else, because this has been a great campaign for interaction among modelers and I have enjoyed that thoroughly.

John, why not opt for one of the easy builds like a 700 scale Yamato. Fujimi makes some really fabulous ones and they go together like clockwork. Add some PE for rails, cranes, and radar fixtures and you are good to go. A project should be relaxing and entertaining. I'm with you on the big ones. I have a tendency to "super diorama" and I hate figure painting. I plan two years when I do a big one because I know I'll suffer burnout and have to do something different for a while..

John, I'm sorry to hear that you must drop out, but I will respect your decision and your feelings concerning this matter...I would like you to reconsider (such as Mr. Joyce has just recently suggested) and begin maybe a smaller and easier project, but I won't pressure you, mate...think it over and let me know what your final decision is, and either way, thanks for your participation John, and good luck, dude.

I may try something different to solve my paint problem....

How about this:

Any paint errors could be covered with ice

It will be a challenge though to make ice in that scale

Martin, that would be a really cool looking alternative, mate...and agreed, would truly be a challenge, but that's what this hobby is all about now, isn't it?

I had second thoughts of building my 1/35 mushashi since it would be a horror to ship them back home (expense & safety) .but I don't want to buy anymore kits since I'm drowning in them. I do have the revells Forrest Sherman. Would that be ok for this campaign?

Well I sure did learn one thing: it's not easy to paint a ship with the superstructure etc already glued to the hull.

So at the moment I am figuring out how to paint the ship properly

Martinn,

Do you use an airbrush? If so, airbrush the whole model, then paint the decks once the hull and superstructure is done, doing touch up with a brush.

Just a thought...

Glad to hear it Jer. I still haven't forgotten about those plans you wanted - I just haven't had time to get them copied, but I will.

Is Forrest Sherman a battleship? From the name it sounds like a Destroyer. Major difference btwn the two. Don't believe she would qualify. Have to agree on shipping the 350 scale Musashi, it would be a wreck. Buy a cheap 700 scale battleship. I think you can pick up one from Hong Kong for $10 to 15. There are a few 720 scale Revell ones that also may be cheap. They are of German and US BB's and Tamiya /Aoshima / Fujimi still has some early versions (from the70's) of Japanese warships like Yamato, Hiei, Kirishima, Kongo, Ise, Fuso to name a few.

Hey, Steve!

You're absolutely right by discerning the Sherman as a Destroyer, mate, and honestly it was a hard call...because I took this into careful consideration after reading the following lines...

" In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast and maneuverable yet long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet or battle group and defend them against smaller, short-range attackers (originally torpedo boats, later submarines and aircraft). At the beginning of the 21st century, destroyers are the heaviest surface combatants in general use, with only two nations (the United States and Russia) operating cruisers and none operating battleships.[1] Modern destroyers are equivalent in tonnage and drastically superior in firepower to cruisers of the World War II era, capable of carrying nuclear missiles able to destroy cities in a very small volley.

So in all reality, even though a destroyer is not of the same class as a battleship, technically it is a Warship, with the same capabilities....this was basically my deciding factor in allowing this entry in. Amongst the experts, probably debatable, but I think that it should be allowed in. The contest rules are fairly vague, by stating" Any Battleship or Dreadnought from big gun sail ships to modern Battleships of the Iowa class.", and although not technically of Battleship Class per se, but still a Warship.
Model on, mates!

Gunny
