in the book landings on hositle shores by j m showell he states that a uboat ran into spain after being damaged . the crew were interned but the boat served in the spainish navy till the seventies. any one know where i could find pics or more info ???

There is a 2 page article with 6 photos of this U-boat in Issue 55 (December 2003) of the SubCommittee Report (see the following address to order back issues: http://www.subcommittee.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?s=16025e9b3d8028875efa3c01be54cf1c;act=ST;f=4;t=4334
It was the U 573, renamed as the G-7. The G-7 served in the post-war Spanish navy. She was renamed S-01 yeras later before being taken out of service in 1970 and sold for scrap.
Wolfgang Peterson, director of Das Boot, came to Spain in 1980 trying to find this U-boat but it had been scrapped ten yeras before.

How sad, I am only aware of the U-boat at the museum in Chicago. Are there any more in the world?

Type II u-boat (Vessiko) in Finland
Type XXI in Hamburg, Germany...this is the ex-Wilhelm Bauer
that was converted back to its original state.

and last but not least you can see the very first uboat in a museum in germany. so its possiable to see the uboat from 1901 to 1945.
