I recently purchased a 1:700 scale BB-39 USS Arizona kit made by MiniHobbyModels. The painting instructions are very basic and I was wondering if I could get some help. I just need to know if there is a site, or a set of instuctions from another kit, that would be more detailed as far as the painting goes. I normally build 1/35 scale armor so I am out of my normal area of operations on this project. However this ship is for a special project so I need some help please. Thank all of you for your help and your assistance.

Harv the USS Arizona has been a very hot topic on the warships forum. You might do a search here for threads concerning her. A lot would depend on what time frame you're painting here also. Is it for when she was at Pearl, or when?

Thanks for the reply Halfyank. It will be displayed as how it would have looked at Pearl Harbor. It doesn't need to be 100% acurate, however I am sure that the Arizona didn't have silver anchors and guns. So just something close to acurate is all that I need. Thanks everyone.

Hi Harv
First of all Welcome to Warships at Armorama
You just have posted the question in the right place
I am also building the Arizona for Dreadnoughts Campaign and I can tell you that I am using the following White Ensign Models Colourcoats (enamels):
- 5-D Dark Gray (for the hull and all the superstuctures)
- 5-L Light Gray (Top of Tripod Structures)
Black of your preference for waterline and funnel top
For the wood deck I have been using some old tinlet of Humbrol Authentic Colours Teak
Also other members are building the Arizona... Check some of the developments here:

Hope this helps...
If you have any more questions feel free to ask the crew

Harv:
Admittingly, the white ensign model paints are the most accurate, but here in the US they are difficult to find. You can order them direct from WEM in Britain, but will pay a premium for them. Paint substitues. se Testor's Model masters Light gray (2038) and there are several options for the dark gray color. My personal choice would be the model masters Navy blue gray (2055) Great models out of Utah has these or you can probably find them readily at your LHS. (local hobby store) I too welcome you to this little section of Armorama. There are several great warship web sites as well. MOst of us love tanks and ships are secondary. The eral ship lovers who ant absolute perfection can be found at modelwarships.com web site. Usually I turn to them when I have a real hard question, but a lot of them have been drifting over here because we are less argumentative and much friendlier here.

Thanks blaster76 and modelguy2. I appreciate the responses and the help. Hopefully my project will turn out ok. Since I normally build armor, I am having a hard time not painting it OD green and hanging jerry cans and spare track links on it!! Thanks again everyone.

Arizona Colors ...ARIZONA was in
Measure 1 on December 7: 5-D Dark Gray on all vertical
surfaces up to the level of the top of the funnel, and
on all steel decks and steel horizontal surfaces; 5-L
Light Gray on all vertical surfaces above the level of
the top of the funnel. Wood decks were unpainted teak.
We have all those colors available in our Colourcoats
enamels, and we ship worldwide. If you use other
paints, make sure you don't get the 1943 version of
5-L Light Gray, which was substantially different from
the 1941 version.
The Arizona was painted in MS 1 camo scheme. Arizona's
decks were unpainted.
