Obviously there will be a lot of changes still coming. Some of the more obvious things....
1. The user avatar problem will be fixed. Why is that happening?? Well the system looks for the users site-based info and doesn't find any (since techically they didn't post here but in Armorama), it fails to find the right info and thus returns nada. When a user posts the first time the record is created and then it all works as it should.
2. Who's online: there is a bug in this system Probably and easy fix.
3. Showing latest post info for other sites? Yes... at some point it can do that. It will likely be some kind of hybrid-Latest Posts page.
4. Articles that are Armorama related (LST for example) now don't show up on Armorama! This is already in place, we just need to setup the right user-based permissions to allow selected users to syndicate their content from one site to another (IF it is material that should appear on both sites).
We can certainly use all the ideas, content, and help we can get to move the site forward. If you are a new member to this site and want to contribute something... just let Rui or myself know.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, guess my question is a basic "navigation" question.
Do I log in to armorama as usual and get to the warships site via a "pick" or will there be a separate site to log into?
(I sort of stumbed in to this thread!)
For what it's worth, I sort of enjoyed the old format with one overall modeling site, with multiple "venues" if you will.
As a modeler who does have various interests (although mostly split between armor and ships), I liked the look of the old site. It let me log into one place and then go to the various different forums (yeah I know that's probably supposed to be "fora" but who acually speaks Latin any more :-) )
And we all benefit from the "generic" forums, like painting, scratch building, history etc.
I know you haven't got everything working the way you intend so it's hard to know how you envision things to be when you're done.
I just don't want this to drift off (sorry bad pun!) from the "main site".

Hi Tom,
I too have voiced similar concerns. Jim has assured us multi-interest modellers, that once the breakdown of forums is completed, there will be a home page where all the genres are to be connected. He has asked us to be patient with the transformation.

OK, I too have reservations but have navigated around.
I can live with clicking Warships on Armorama to get here -- although I reallyt wish it were in the list of forums also -- ie, where I used to click.
(Remember I don't like Latest Posts).
I do not see a duplication of the common forums and that should preserve the "community".
I find separating by ship type to be just a bit too much -- we could probably shrink this to a few categories -- Civilian, Sail, Pre-Dreadnought, WW1-2, Post WW2 ... I really think this should be relooked ... and possibly look at an R/C section ...
I noted some mis-posting of reviews - the oiler Glasgow is under Other Combat Ships & not Support Vessels ...
GQ does not show under the "Talk" menu ...
"My Photos" on both Look & Control menus does not go to mine, but to the general list ...
"Catagory" should be spelled "Category" -- all sites !!!
The Campaigns section has all sorts of naval interests (like the overly forum list) but also shows all Campaigns regardless of type ...
I recognize a lot of these things are probably being worked, so take this as constructive comment ...
Other than that, if we can keep from loosing the community, it seems OK ...
John
PS: OK my post took, my avatar showed, all is good, but my count is at 1 -- I understand that but somehow think we should be running an "Armorama" count & not specific site counts ...

Hi John (and All)
Things are still tunning up, so it is a question of time until all of this points (and some more not listed here) are corrected.
All I have to ask for you guys, is to be a little (more) patiente until all is running properly!
:)
I am also looking forward to it - and I trust BIG Jim on this one (as usual)

No carping or griping from me to post - just a wish for things to flesh out quickly and nicely for all the members.
It will be nice to see this site grow and flourish...

I've got no complaints. If we are starting fresh with number counts and rank, it would be kinda cool to have Ensigns - - - - -Admirals in stead of all the other officer ranks

I have just worked out the navigation around the new 'sub'-site, and I understand that this is a on going project but I do agree with Steve (Blaster76) and Jim (Gunnie) concerning the ranks and emoticon's.
I will wait to see the progress as like some others I to am a multi format modeller so the navigation when Staff Jim has finished will be be important.
Ciao

I have to agree with John about the breakdown by ship type being a bit too much (specially 'Crusiers'
)
Sometimes less is more.
As for overall structure, I expect that using it will encourage familiarity.
EDIT: the auto message generated while the reply is being posted still tells me that I'll be 'trasported' back to the DG.

I'm sure there are practical and insurmountable reasons why the posting count (and ranks) can't carry over from the original Armorama site. I guess I understand it, but it does have the effect of making this a "different" site and each of us a "different" user when we're here, from when we are on the "original" site.
While I suppose that can be looked at nautically as a way of distinguishing us as "plank owners" of this site, in a way I think it's a shame that we are losing the "history" we've gained by posting over at the old site all that time.
An "ideal" solution in my book, which I'm sure is one that isn't practical, would be if our posting count on EITHER site was in one "bucket" if you will.
Then if I'm on the other site with 600 + posts, I be listed as a "Major", but I'd have the option on this site to have that same 600 + posts have me shown as a Lieutenant Commander instead if I chose to display a different "rank" here.
Any chance at ALL of that happening? It reinforces the idea that either site is still part of the SAME community, rather than empasizing that this is a DIFFERENT one.
(For example, are the Zoomies going to start their own site as well some time in the future and is that a good thing?)
Just food for thought.
Tom (O-1 again, sigh)
