Ok, now that I've suggested new smilies how about some new, nautical related ranks. I only see USN enlisted ranks so far. I know Jim needs the ranks in HTML format, and I can barely draw a straight line, not to mention I can't program. Maybe some of you gifted artists out there who can also program could come up with some new naval ranks? I'm thinking the sleeve stripes, like the single stipe and loop of a RN sub-lieutenent for example. Since many navies use similar rank stripes for naval officers with just a name change you could have other countries to distinquish them. This might also be a good way to have German Kriegsmarine ranks, Leutnant zur See instead of Ensign or Sub-lieutenent.

Failing new images perhaps the names could just be changed for those ranks that have the same rank symbols for both Army and Navy, depending on uniform. That would mean you'd just have to change the name of the rank. For example instead of 2nd Lieutenent for my current rank show Sub-Lieutenent.

Not a bad idea Rodger, although I'm rather happy with my rank, and call sign..... really don't need a change to "grumpyoldcabinboy".... :-) :-)

I posted the same question somewhere in this new forum. I agree, if we are starting over, I kinda would like to be an esign rather than a second LT here. I think I'll still keep blaster. I love those big guns !!!

Well sure, YOU'RE happy with your rank. :-) Us peons have to start over.

That reminds me of how my dad used to say his first sergent tried to talk him into joing the Army reserve after WWII. One thing the sarge said was, "you get to keep your old rank." My dad just point to his bare sleeve, buck private, and said, "I get my old rank back anytime I want it."

All good points, Gentlemen, and I wish that I was talented enough in HTML to do such a sort...but, I can definitely learn, and will be doing some research on the matter, mates! And in the meantime if one of us already has this talent, then Step up, matie!

There is no problem with adding more naval ranks. I don't need "HTML" actually but images and naming conventions.

There are lots of rank sites out there so this is not a problem. Just finding the time to work on it.

Once again, Commander, if there's anything that I can do to help you out, just ask, sir! Here's a decent site with some good images of rank insignia:

Here is one for the RN as well.

British RN officer ranks

Note CDRE stands for commodore.

Here is another page from the same site that shows the Army to Navy equivelents.

What, are we suppose to wait while you sleep, work a "real" job, or spend time with your wife? Don't want much, do you?

I kinda like the US Navy shoulderboards myself. Personally, I like the concept of all of us starting fresh in ranks again. it was kind of fun getting promoted once in a while.

Hmmm - I would go for Sleeve
(If I prefer to have a rank)

Sleeve and the second style would be my preference. Is there not a way that the main site database can be set up so that we can keep our post counts, and thus ranks, from Armorama?

I don't like being demoted!

Hmmm....looks like this topic hasn't been touched in a while. Well if anyone's listening out there, I'd really like to get those US Navy Officer ranks up and available. Sleeves or shoulderboards would be great, but personally I think the Navy's shoulderboards are pretty slick and the precedence for shoulderboards already seems to be in place. The Wikipedia page has really nice drawings of the boards and sleeves. We could probably even use those with permission. Thoughts?
