I thought this was a rather nice ship model....
Just a little something for the mantle.

A nice Liberty Ship
Is it the Trumpeter's 1/350 Jeremiah O'Brien?
I guess so, but we'll never know :-)
Apparently the ship class was a little empty....
Thanks for sharing Dave!!!

I believe it was 1/96 scale, scratchbuilt....
The modeller lives down the road from me. Never met him before and unfortunately I forgot his name, but I'm sure Martin Quinn knows more about it than I do.

Oswald Thuman is his name...I know his first name is Ozzie, but I can't recall if I got his last name correct. The Angry Ensign knows him pretty well.
The 1/400 and larger category for Cruisers, Battleships and Carriers was a little light, with only four entries. The other ship categories (we have four) were much better populated.

I'm always in awe of people who can scratch build, and make it look as good as a kit. I have hard enough time making a kit look half way decent, let alone building one from scratch. People like this truly deserve the name "modeler."

Rodger,
Please remeber that practice make it worth - my wild guess is that this was NOT is first scratchbuild model.
Some thing with models that we build - I am way far more perfectionist than when I started modeling and used to look at those models in the catalog (Airfix and Matchbox ) and thought: "These models are sooooo neat!". Today I look at them (same catalogs) and say "Mine looks better!"
;)

That's Oswald Thalmann, crazy-man ship modeler. Great guy, builds one model every other year or so, most are completely scratchbuilt.
The Liberty is 1/96, about 4 feet long. The Bismarck (and Hood) are 1/100 scale.

Very encouraging to see that. I have that 350 scale kit and though I won't achieve results like that I can see that it will be an attractive model quite easily. Best 25 bucks I've spent in a while.

Thalmann, Thuman...whatever!! Guess I confused him with Glazed Ham... (Thumans is a brand of cold cuts here in the Northeast US).
