Has anybody ever built any of those cruise ships or luxury liners. My ex-wife and I did the 350 scale Titanic and I found it just an awful kit to build. All the layers of decks just never seemed to want to line up and then there was all that goofy rigging. I finally got the thing together. I sure wish she takes that thing with her next time she comes toTexas for a visit.

Same here, Steve... struggled to finish the darn thing,
nothing really fit at all on that one...I thought that I got a great deal on the kit from Hobby Surplus too...not!
Have you seen the Carnival Cruiseline models from DML yet? Might be an interesting build...

If you haven't seen 'em, check 'em out HERE

cruise ships in the MED are like leeches every where you go one wants to "come alongside " the ship to see a real Navy ship- we were right in the middle of a skeet shooting tournement and we had to stop because a cruise ship wanted to sail alongside for a while. Pesky damn things - I think of them as U-boat bait. I wonder what a MK48 adcap would do to one?

That certainly is an interesting perspective John. I think the ones out there lack the beauty of the warship shape (especially a batleship) on the other hand, I love the colorful paint schemes. I think taking a week long cruise wuld be fun. I remember as a kid in the 60's we went to Germany in one of the Army troopships. I think we road out on the Patton and back on the Patch. As a 7-10 year old I enjoyed myself. I would get seasick right off the bat, and then would be fine as we hit the North Atlantic during summer.

Hobby Lobby has that BIG kit of the Queen Mary II that keeps calling me, but I just haven't wanted to committ to her. It would take up a bunch of shelf space.

I really don't like current ships, to me they look way too top heavy, and not shipshape at all.

Wildcard picked one of those up several months ago. He's been totally hooked on some video game for the past 3 months so I don't know if he's done anything on anything. Hope to rope him back in in the middle of May with the Mesquite show. They look like big boxes with some pointy things sticking out fo the most part. I think a few of them have made it to plastic model stage. I wonder if you can buy a model (built most likely) of one you tour on? Some though have some absolutly wild paint schemes

Hi Steve & All

Although not my "ball game", I have seen some very good Cruise ships, mainly the older ones (Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary, United States, France, Brazil and all those old models from our youth!) (notice I didn't state the Titanic).
Usually they are in a smaller scale than the Mamouth Quen Mary 2 and they can turn into beautifull display models with a little care...

Too funny! My mom and sisters and I went over in 1962 on the Darby. We went over in August, and of course the weather was lousy. The three of them spent almost the entire trip seasick in our cabin. I was totally fine and was able to spend all that unsupervised time "inspecting" every square inch I could get into! Quite an adventure for a 12 year old! I could keep them confined to the room simply by coming back from breakfast and telling them what great softboiled eggs we'd had for breakfast!!!

We were supposed to come home on either the Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth which MSTS had chartered some berths on. It was 1965 and air travel had already started to put a severe crimp in the ship travel on the Atlantic and I guess the ships had the extra space. But there was a dock worker's strike in Le Havre (surprise!) and the voyage was cancelled and we flew home.

I think taking a week long cruise wuld be fun.

After 1 Caribean cruise, I didn't find the Fun to $ ratio to be very high. The ship mostly traveled at night to keep the casino open and docked during the day to keep the passengers at the company stores ashore.

Now maybe if the wife had let me stay drunk and watch the girls at the pool I might have a different view.

I've never been on one but Matt, Red4, just got back from one last week. He said he booked next years cruise the day he got back. His wife and him loved it.
