Ahoy, mates!

OK, I'm going to put this question out to ALL of the campaign entrants of Flattops...

I have previously mentioned of a few members that have expressed a concern of finishing this campaign on time, and I'm going to do so again in a seperate thread, in case some of you may have missed my query. I would hate to have come this far in the build and not have enough time to finish, so please, if you don't think that you will be complete by the end of June, then speak up now!! If nobody needs one then so be it, but we're getting close, mates, and I don't want to have any surprises or desperation....This is about FUN, and if you're losing sleep over not being able to finish, then let me know! Keep modeling!!

I for one would appreciate an extension to this campaign. Due to work pressures I haven't even started my Ark Royal yet...

I don’t know if I’ll get my hornet done by the deadline or not so an extension would help.

Perhaps I'm out of line as I'm not participating in this particular campaign.

But having been the grateful recipiant of an extension on the Dreadnaughts campaign (from 8 months to 10) I would certainly think an extension for the Flattops campaign, is appropriate, especially since its original duration was only 6 months to begin with.

If the objective is to get as many participants to complete a quality build, especially given that most of us are not only busy, but have other interests (and CAMPAIGNS!) as well, an extension is a good idea.

Mark - there is a couple of ways to address this situation:

1) Leave the original end date in place. I can always go back and open it up to award a member who's finished their entry after the deadline - if this is agreed upon by the Campaign Leader and members participating. I'm only a PM away...

Changing dates, after they're set, caused some consternation in the past. I think this Memorial Campaign is important, and being flexible enough for allowing the members who entered and got their projects underway is cricket in this circumstance.

2) Change the end date - but - then this new end date becomes a "hard and fast" one. No more extensions. It looks really, really, bad to keep pushing out the end dates. Grumbling about the "never-ending-Campaign" will start, Dogs will start sleeping with Cats, Universal Armageddon will ensue...

Ok, mates, some major words of wisdom from our Campaign Administrator...I, as the campaign leader, am in complete agreement with Gunnie's paragraph #1 above, but as he has stated, I need the participating members input also...read his response over, think about it, then read it again, then let me know what you think.

Mark,

You're the honcho on this, so whatever you decide in the end is fine. However, I could still use the extension on either or both.

I think given the scope and complexity the projects I think in the beginning we all knew that they were going to be a long haul. I may be wrong, but I'm not certain that there would be the complaints of the never ending campaign on these at least.

Hi Steve!

So far, it's only you and me on this one, mate, and I'm definitely leaning toward Jim's first thought, which is to keep the original finish date, but have a "campaign rider" so to speak that states that the campaign can be opened back up to award any late finishers...this way, you can keep building your entry, and will eventually wind up with a completion ribbon and the satisfaction of completing the campaign...
But I would really like to get some of the other participating members thoughts, before making any decisions...I'm going to let this thread run a while before anything is done...

I'd agree with you Gunny, for what it's worth. Keep the planned end date but allow stragglers to pick up a ribbon later when (if) they complete their build. A bit disheartening otherwise, especially if you are, for example, 90% complete when the end date rolls around!

I like paragraph #1. I didn't realize that was an option. It takes the heat off and allows for life's circumstances.

but allow stragglers

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Yeah the rider concept works for me. Gives me plenty of wiggle room.

OK Mates, so far we seem to all agree that we want to keep the original closing date for this build, and allow for a later re-opening and award for the late finishers...I think that I'll let this thread run the weekend, then put something into action next week. Thanks for your responses and input, mates, get busy, lots of workbench time this weekend!!!

OK mates,
I've let this thread run a week, and it's now time for some action! Thanks for your reply's, your feedback is most important in this matter...looks like we're in agreement here, and that is to stay in the bounds of Gunnies first suggestion, as follows;

So in essence, folks, the campaign/group build will end on June 30th, and completion ribbons for those finished at this time will be awarded then...but keep building if you're not done with your entry, because Jim Lewis (GunTruck, our Campaign Administrator) can re-open the campaign to allow your entry to be listed as complete...this will allow everyone who has been building with us thus far to finish with honors.
That's it, mates, so with this said, Keep Modeling!
