Not too shabby. Next project involves 1/350 Hydrofoils...don't I recall a thread about Tucumcari?...

Not too shabby at all, mate!
VERY nice, as a matter of fact...I love the way that they all appear to be slicing through the water, Mike, very nice job, and thanks for sharing!

The bow wakes are great, I think they are very convincing.
What is the square taken out of the corner for - a name plate maybe?

One thing I would like to see is a bit more attention to the edge of the plywood base. It's not bad, I personally like to see a bit more 'finish', maybe a thin viner.

I do really like the corner pieces on the 'big base' they are a great touch.

Thats correct

"One thing I would like to see is a bit more attention to the edge of the plywood base"

That's accentuated by the proximity to the flash in that photo. That's not a smaller base that's the lip the case fits over.

What do you use for your water base to get that deep placid look like that? Is that a sheet of plexi? I have to say I really like the wake from the screws, you have really got that foamy chopped up look going and for me, there is a real sense of movement. I do have one question though, wouldn't there be another, fading, wake off to the sides that were created by the bow wave?

Nice work as always Mike.

First time I've seen the Aquila built up - fine job, as usual.

The Tucumcari thread was over on Steel Navy, IIRC. Guy from my local IPMS club, Mike Dobrezelecki picked up a lot of info on this from a former crewman. If you want his contact info, shoot me an e-mail.

Oh great water effects and nice models! I would prefer the water a little more rougher than this, bu it is all personal taste. Congratulations.

Yes the secondary wake is drybrushed under the surface and can't be seen as there's no high angle photo. Usually I 3-d this wake but again this was a rush job. Rough water takes longer and I like to think of Italian ships in the Med and I always (for some reason) think the Med's calmer-granted not dead flat but I like the reflective quality of the smoother water surface I do sometimes. The water is simple blue paint covered with celluclay wakes and then overcoated with a layer of acrylic varnish.

Thanks for the comments and information-all.

Mike
