Here's a link to the first dives on the recently sunk USS Oriskany.

Thanks for the link, Dave!
I've been following this story with great interest since I spotted it over at the US Navy website, and I must say that although it IS a sad note that it had to be done, there will be some benefit coming from the action by the creation of a man-made reef...

We can't preserve all of them. It's nice to know that not all of them are being broken up for scrap

Here, here. As the poem Old Ironsides, by Oliver Wendell Homes said about the USS Constitution ...

"Oh, better that her shattered hulk
Should sink beneath the wave;
Her thunders shook the mighty deep,
And there should be her grave; "

Better the Oriskany be available for generations of divers to come than she be broken up for razor blades or Toyotas.

I just got a chance to look at some of those videos. I'm impressed with how much light there was at that depth, and how clear the water was. For those who are certified to dive that depth this would probably be the dive of a life time.

These are terriffic! I gotta make sure my son sees these! He is certified to dive and once he sees these, I know he's gonna dive this for sure.
