Hi all,

I wouldn't doubt that you guys know all about these little 1:400 subs.
PeteV came across them at our local hobby shop and we decided to do one each. I'm doing the HMS Undine and Pete'sdoing a "U" boat but I'm not sure what type.
These are just the right size to put on my shelf in front my desk at work and if it comes out any good then I might get a few more for what they cost.
This one comes with some photoetch and a resin bow section. The fit so far hasn't been great and some fileing and filling is required but for a little project while watching TV with SWMBO (Trying to keep her happy ) it's ok.
I paint my figures with oils so I thought I'd try painting this in oils too.
If it comes out any good I'll post an update.

Take it steady

Vic

Hi Vic!
These are certainly great little models, mate, but yes the fit is a challenge at times!
I just picked up this one from Mirage, U-176 (IXC) German Submarine Scale: 1/400 ...looks to be a little gem! Keep us updated with your build!

Gents,
Personally, I feel the Mirage fleet is the best deal on the market today. Yes one has to put a little work into them, but you are more than rewarded with a decent model. The cost is at a point where most everyone can end with a flotilla without breaking the bank. The accompaning etch sheets really make a difference. Hopefully, Mirage will continue with this line. I wrote them and suggested the Gato/Balao family. But this was only due to the fact of quite a few boats, but also the Guppy family can be modelled. Interesting concept !
For those working the British "U-class" boat, I added a progress shot to the DDD2 in progress photo file yesterday. Ursula is coming down the ways, an enjoyable build.

Hi Gunny,

I've ordered the U-176 along with a couple of others today. I like these little guys.

Hi Frigate,

I checked out you photos of Ursula, Looks very nice and gives me something to aim for with her sister ship.

I'm glad you guys like them, I posted some small ready made tanks on the Armour section some time back. I liked them but got a hell of a barrage from the guys over there because they wern't true models
:-) :-)

I wasn't sure how these little subs would go down over here

All the best

Vic

I've never even heard of these kits. I built an old Heller 1/400 Surcouf, and it had "fit issues" but I think that was just because of being Heller. I'd certainly like to try one of these. I doubt I'd ever order one, but if my LHS ever gets one in I'll give it a try.

I bought 8 of these 2 yaers ago from Squadron. Seems they ran around $7 a pop. I added some 350 scale rails to the tower and they look great. You can easily do 2 or 3 of these in a weekend and they come out grand. I have a tyoe II, 3 or 4 variation of the Type VII some Type IX's. Super kit for what you get VS cost
