Okay, I am new to this ship thing so I have no idea what is available or where to get it.
I am looking for line drawings or plans for the HMS Terror or the HMS Erebus. The ships used by John Franklin to search for the Northwest Passage 1845- 1848
Are these available anywhere? I don't suppose I could hit paydirt and find a model kit of either of these ships?
I have pretty much exhausted my internet resources and have hit dead ends along every avenue.
Hope someone with more ship experience can help.
Cheers,
Charles

Hey Charles and welcome to Model Shipwrights!

I too am drawing a blank. I'm going to steer you to Model Expo . If you're not familiar with this site, it's specifically for model ship builders. This is the best I can do for you until one of our more knowing crewmates can answer. I'll look some more tomorrow.

Most of the ship sellers that offer detailed plans only carry WW2 stuff. I think model expo is a good place to look. There are a few companies that make wooden ships for sale, but they primarily focus on warships like Victory, Constitution, and San Felipe era. You can check them out just look for Redsun, Atalto, and Modelshipbuilders. They all sell on ebay so go to the model ship section write name of a famous wooden ship then ask the seller a question

The National Maritime Museum (NMM) in Greenwich, England is probably your most likely source.

You could try getting in touch with the National Maritime Museum. don't know if they have a website, but a google search might help.

Well, I've sent an inquiry to the National Maritime Museum. Sounds like if any one would have plans or drawings it will be them. Fingers crossed.
Thank you all for responding.
Cheers,
Charles

John,
Thanks, I had seen that site. As a matter of fact that site has the most information I have seen on the two ships in question. I am sure there are plans or line drawings somewhere. The model question was really a stab in the dark.
Cheers,
Charles

No specific help, but here are some hints for places to try -- these folks focus on sail ...

Nautical Research Guild
Seaways Ships in Scale
Dromedary
Model Ship Builders
Taubman Plans Service
Model Dockyard

I don't have web links for these, but do some searching ... you'll end up with other links to follow ...

Also Seaways has a Yahoo group, I think called SeawaysShipmodelingList and that would be a great place to ask questions ...

John
