Any one know of a website with colored pictures of the IJN mastu class destroyers? Specifically the Sakura but any ships of the class will do.

Thanks.

The liklihood of finding ANY color picture of a World War 2 Japanese warship is probably a million to one. The closest I think I saw to one that was still on the surface was the wreck of a beached Nagato after the war. I would bet you'll have a hard time finding more than a couple pictres of the Matsu class. There is a kit of it out in 700 scale that has a nice color painting, but you probably have that kit and that is why you are seeking.

Hi Jacob!
I don't think that I've ever seen a color photo of the Sakura, mate...but, if I were you, I'd get a hold of Gator (subhunter) and see if he has anything in his data files...good place to start, Bro!

Thanks kenny but I already knew that one. I’m more interested in the other colored areas of the ship. (on some of the guns, life boats, any markings on the ship, ex.)

I knew chances of a colored picture of the Sakura were low but I has hoping there might be some of any surviving ships of the class. (I’m assuming they would have all been pretty much the same.)

As a few of you know I’m hoping to do a review of the Tamiya kit and am hoping to find something to try to check the accuracy of the provided paint guide.

Kenny:

Could you give a list of the colors of the IJN? I don't think they did camo patterns,(except on AC decks) but I would think that not all ships were painted that dark grey. It almost looks like charcoal. I imagine they also varied throughout war. As research for my Yamato project (by the way, she safely reached port today all safe sound and secure....thanks again) I would like to have /see the color variations used assuming they changed during the course of the war.

Hey Steve,

I got WEM's book Japanese Greys. From what I understand, each shipbuilder had their own version of IJN gray. So, for every shipbuilder there was a gray. It's kinda like trying to be specific about WW2 USN camouflage colors, which were mixed on the spot by the sailors of that ship. Naturally, colors varied regardless of the offical color.
If you got the Ship Camouflage website and look at their color chips for the IJN, you can see all the different grays that were used. If you have a particular ship in mind, let me know and I'll look it up for you.
