Hey guys,

Well, everything is a go for my Doolittle Raid Hornet. I've got the reference photos and I made the base today. While I was laying everything out this afternoon, I layed the hull of the 1/700 Hornet next to the hull of the 1/350 Sullivans. For those who say that they won't build 1/700 scale because it's too small, look at this photo....

That's the 1/700 Hornet on the bottom and the 1/350 Sullivans on the top. Wow. :-)

I hear ya Gator, sometimes the scale mark is very deceiving!
I've built some 1/700 that's made my eyes cross, and vice-versa!
A good example is the new Hasegawa Yukikaze, 1/350 scale...the hull is about the same size as many of the 1/700 scale vessels on my shelves! Physics, mate...affects us modelers as well! Please keep us posted on your project, Bro!

Hey guys, here's an update. The fit of the Trumpeter kit is pretty good. Some of the subassemblies that were ok for 1/350 scale are a little tough for 1/700 scale. I'm leaving all the hanger deck doors open so I can display the Hornet's aircraft below. Does anyone know if these doors slid sideways or were roll ups?

I know there is a lot of filler along the waterline, but I want to make sure it is smooth.

Full hanger deck, just like on the 1/350 scale kit.

Here's a couple of ideas for placement of my aircraft. I was surprised to find out that the Hornet was carring F4F-3 durning the raid. So, no folded wings for my Wildcats.

Kenny, I'm pretty sure they were roll ups. I've seen line drawings which appear to indicate that by showing several in the half raised position.
