Hey ya'll. I'm building Tamiya's 1/16 IJN pilot. I'm going to have him standing on the Hiryu's flight deck. What would be a good color to stain the wood? I know that this is a bit off topic for the ships forum, but I knew that I could find the answer here amungst the salty dogs. I'm modeling him as Lt. Tomonaga before the Midway strike.

Hi Kenny,
HIRYU was painted in Sasebo Gray, so if he's on the steel portion of the deck, that's the color you want (that's IJN 01 in our Colourcoats enamels). The wooden portion of IJN carrier decks was unstained pine, so....

Kenny:
For the pine color, I like Model Masters Radar dome tan. It gives that real light wood deck color that was so noticable on Japanese ships, especially when offset by that real dark gray they used.

Thanks Steve, but I had planned on using real pine for the flight deck.
