Size.

1/350 is a large scale when it comes to ships and Carriers are large ships.

The large size of the ship (leading to a larger box) and usually a higher price means less people are interested or able to buy them. In turn stores are then less likely to stock many as the take up more shelf space for a longer time.

For finding some you can try great models webstore. I know I’ve seen a few there.

I believe Yankee Modelworks make some carriers in 1/350 but I think there resin.
I’ve never built any of there kits so I can’t tell you what there like.

Edit: oh and I believe Trumpeter made a few in 1/350. But I don’t know where you could find them.

Gunny

thanks for the received info. I have been looking around and there is much to find. How is your opinion of the quality of Trumpeter. I bought recently the James O Brian but haven't build it yet too bussy with the subs at the moment and the Cushing

Have a good weekend mate and also for the family

Brandon, I have personally built in 350 scale.....the Nimitz, Essex, and Lexington. I possess but have not built yet the Hornet and the modern Enterprise. What do I think about Trumpeter quality. MY very favorite model to build and still look at in detail everyday is the Nimitz. It was 4 months of heaven putting it together. I thoroughly enjoyed the Essex which was a wee bit more difficult in getting set right but looks absolutly spectacular. I modified the Lexington, I did an article on it which is posted on this website. If you can afford their $100 or so price tags, I think you will fall in love with these kits as I have.

Lucky man, I think I spent close to $250 for my Tamiya Enterprise! But that was here in Canada, where the prices are usually alot higher (and it was when the exchange rate was about 40-50%, too!

All of mine were bought off Ebay. ONly the Nimitz exceeded $100. My sister bought that for me for Christmas in 2004.

Ahoy, Wim!

My feelings echo Steve's in regards to the quality of Trumpeter products, their kits are very good, and accuracy is normaly just as well. . .I'm not sure of the availability in your part of the world, but I imagine that you should be able to obtain these kits without much of a hassle.

Trumpeter is probably one of the true biggies in the release of new ship related model kits, and their future projects look very bright for us modelers. They have also partnered up with Pit Road Models in the planning and release of some very exciting new kits (See the MSW NEWS! ) and have more planned in the future as well.

If I were you, mate, and if you're going to stick with 1:350 scale, your best bet for kits and availability most likely will be this one.
Keep Modeling!
