Hi all,

If this is old news then accept my aplogies.

Had a phone call today from my friend who is the manager of my local model shop (Antics, Bristol) to tell me that a Type XXI by Revell was waiting for me, don`t know if this is a re-issue as I belive they made a model of the post war XXI WB some time ago or a new kit. I hope to collect it tomorrow if I do I will try and get some photos of it posted on to the site.

If it's the cut-away version, I believe it is a re-issue. That given, it's still a nice kit.

Enjoy

Steve,

I don`t think this model is a cut away, lokking at the Revell DE site it makes no mention of cut away, if so it looks like a new kit, will post more news as and when I pick it up, fingers crossed.

Ahoy all,

The type XXI by Revell was available in three versions:

Post war Wilhelm Bauer
U-2540 Cut away version
U-2518 Full hull kit

All versions have gone OOP but the good news is that REVELL Germany has
reissued the full hull kit . A kit worth adding to the 1:144 collection. It is a very
nice kit well detailed. According to some, there are some minor inaccuraries
but will build into a fine represention as is. Research can help with the minor
inaccuracies.

One can still find the other 2 kits in some hobbyshops, they seem to pop up
now and then.

Hope this helps,
Have a nice day,
Joe

I have the 2530 version.

It is a nice kit, the mold lines are fine and crisp and no flash. I cut the hull away from the sprue just to slap them together to test the fit and it was a good fit. I haven't built it yet, I've had it for two years I think. I've often wondered how well the fit would be once you began to add the interior. I've seen some built examples and I really liked them and it gave me some ideas on how to do mine.

Pete, looking forward to seeing yours when it's finished.

Hi All

The Type XXI is as some of you said a re-issue of the full hull kit, boxed as U-2540 with decal and painting options for U-2502, 2514, 3501, 3504 & 2540.

Looks good but as Joe has already said until it is compared to drawings/plans there might be a few errors, but it does look like a type XXI even fresh out of the box.
