G'mornin, mates!
Well, the weekend is over, back to the office, again, and unfortunately, away from the workbench. . .I myself look forward to my weekends, as this is my most productive bench time.

So tell me, what have you got on your workbench? (pics are most welcome! )

I myself have my DDD2 entry (revised, due to an unfortunate accident), the USS Lionfish, My Leyte Gulf entry, DML's USS Independence, and a Zvezda BTR-80P Russian Personnel Vehicle for a full build review (sorry, no pics of anything now, at the office!)

So, who's next? Tell us what you're working on, and if ya got pics, and the time, put em up for us to see!!

Keep Modeling!

No pictures yet and I’ve got to go to work here soon (2 more days to clean out a basement and garage. I can confidently say we’ve missed the deadline) so will try to get some posted when I get back but haven’t a clue when that will be.

So on the workbench I have I believe. A hammer, framing square, and bag of grease. (I have to get that room finished.)

In the livingroom next to the couch I have the following projects.
The 1/700 Sakura (test ship before I do my grandfathers dio.) Needing the water base done. (Also have to handful of water tests I’ve ben doing for it.)

Tamiyas M3 Lee that I’ve been trying to fix some of the errors on. (Including doing some major work on the rear of the tank.)

And I have just cut a maple base for my small OIF dio.

I also have my first stand alone figure there but all she needs is to be glued onto a poplar base tonight.

Hi Mark

Great stuff Mark.

Phew your workbench sounds real busy.

I personally just work on one model at a time.

The old workbench has a Tamiya Hanomag (very very old kit bought very cheap)on it at present.

I am building this as an experiment test dummy for techniques etc for Armour and Ships etc. Main experimntation is using Future, decals, decal solutions, washes, drybrushing, and clear coats etc. Did more work on yesterday.

I have pending in my dockyard my Leyte Campaign project on its way to me, SMS Emden hopefully on its way to me, Airfix E Boat etc etc. I have plenty of future projects.

Mind you yesterday my six year old son and I put together a Spidernman figure/diorama together for him. Great fun he did all the cutting and gluing I just did a little prep work. He really enjoyed it and so did I him sitting on my knee and me passing on the modelling "torch". I will spare you pictures of Spiderman. LOL

I work nights so I get time in the afternooons and on my weekend to work on modelling projects. When I am on a roll I aim to spend at least half an hour to an hour at the workbench each day. I am at present back on a roll which is fantastic thats what happens when you hang around this place the enthusiasm is just great. The old modelling "mojo" gets reignited.

Regards

Hey Gunny.

Well, my Hornet project is on hold for a few days. I was cutting some material yesterday on the table saw and the waste material was in a position to kick back. I reached around to clear it and hit the top of my index and middle finger on my left hand on the saw blade and chewed the up pretty good.

The great docs at our local ER sewed them up and in no time I was home. I broke the tip on the middle finger, but no surgery was needed. I hurt like the dickens yesterday but it's feelin ok today. I'll go in two weeks to get the stitches out and Wednesday I can take the gauze off and use band-aids.

We're getting rid of that old saw and getting a new one with a blade guard. I'm home from work today but will go back tomorrow. I'll work on a figgie or two today. I only need one had for those. :-) :-)

later...Gator

Holy heck Kenny really and truly sorry to hear about the accident.

Mate look after yourself ok?

Get well soon.

And to think I was complaining about sore muscles and aches and pains after doing a half marathon in the weekend. Kenny you have put that totally in perspective for me.

Right now the workbench is sort of empty. I am waiting for some custom parts for my Yamato project, but figure to go ahead and paint the deck and bottom hull this week. Got most of the other stuff on it done....the superstructure, main guns, and brass crains and catapults. The other project which will be the 35th scale BR52 and 3 loaded down cars. I've got one car 7/8 built. I plan to add a 4 barrel 20mm AA gun and crew to that which is on order from China. I'm trying to collect chains, hooks, block and tackle stuff, and fabricate chock blocks for load carrying. Then get or make a couple of tank kits for loads maybe some camo netting, oh....and almost forgot....build that marvelous Trumpeter loco kit.. If your LHS will let you look at the parts on that kit you too will buy it. I figure by the time I finish ths if I don't find a job, I'll have to dump everything and move in with my sister or something. If things go my way, by then the Alabama should be out or I 'll build one of the other 350 scale ships I have in the stash.

Dang Kenny. I’m really sorry to hear that.
As someone who does woodwork myself I know what those blades are capable of.
Get well soon and then get you self a new saw with the guard. (Make sure it’s a good guard and not a cheap one. Some cheap ones don’t stay lined up with the blade making a greater risk of kickback.)

Here are the pictures I promised.

The Sakura.

The M3.

and the figure.

Greetings all,

Well the Bedford's underway. You get spoilt with the new kits and forget just how much work is needed on some of the older ones.

Building across the mdoel as usual, the interior of the cab is almost done, needs some filler and I have cut it down to accept the hard top - more or less :-) :-) . Started work on the chassis, there is a lot to complete there as although the kit is quite old it is well detailed.

The hard part will be to get it al to fit - need to sort out some windows and a driver at some point.

The rear will have to be scratched as the style of the vehicles from about 43 onwards changed. This one may take several weeks or more.

The AA conversion is not a great fit or perhaps it's just the builder. As usual the instructions are poor.

After the LCs I feel the need for another Sherman, I've been trying to resist for several days, but I must be suffering from Sherman Withdrawal Syndrome, and may start an M4A1 by the weekend if not before.

JB - The boat is looking very cool, I like the yellow funnels, the rest of the craft looks grand too. This is really a class piece of work - look forward to seeing more.

Have fun - some interesting looking builds going on folks.

Cheers

Al

Thanks for the compliments on the boat Al! I am pretty happy with the result on the black paint. Is it true the yellow funnels/red underside and black upper called the "Victorian scheme"?
Your truck looks good as far as it started, but uh, though it is not the place to talk about trucks, it looks a bit red, is it the "underpaint"?

Jacob, your Sakura looks off centered, what will you put in the empty space? esplosions? other boats?

Kenny i wish you well!

Mark, i still can't see your pics :-)

Hi JB,

It's Humbrol matt 70 the nearest to 'red lead' I can get. Looks much brighter because of the flash. I use it to prime all the larger metal parts.

Cheers

Mornin All!
Well here in wonderful South Alabama I have my Wife wondering when my EBay shopping cart will empty.
I'm currently working the Lindberg Hood and Revell U-Boat, just got the KGV, and Arizona for a steal.
All the Battleships are 1/350, the Sub is 1/72.
Now all I have to do is finish the bedroom remodel, the the Wife Unit will let me get to work on my plastic.

"OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!.......................XGZQIWZZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Nasty experience Gator! Sounds as though you were lucky that much worse damage wasn't done

Must be a Kiwi thing I only work on one model at a time too. My present project is a Trumpy BR52 Loco.

I also have to pick up four nice oak bases and hardwood bearers for my four 1/350 battleships . These ship models are are already assembled and painted 1/350th.
I am thinking of attaching the ships to the bases once I have stained and polyurathaned them by removing some paint under the hull in strategic places and leaving a few bearers not polyturethaned and using two pot epoxy to fix things together, will this work o.k.?

Of course I realise that I am attempting this about face and should have put a means of mounting the ships ,into the hull as a first step!!!!!!!!!

Actually it will be empty space.
This will be practice at making water and will allow me to add water to an empty area as well.
(This entire project is practice before I do a dio for my grandfather including his ship from the Korean war.)

Good news. I'm out of the finger bandages and into band aids. The pain I feel now is from along the stitches and not the dull, throbbing ache of the last three days. So, I'm going to break out my USS Sullivans kit and all the goodies I got for it and start on the USS Heerman. All my 1/700 scale projects will go on hold until I can use my fingers more.

Is this the forum to ask advice on various modelling proceedures? If so, would someone check out the question I have asked above and give some?
