Paper punches! Of course. Great idea. I'll have to look into that at the local craft store.

Ahoy Kenny,
Yes, paper punches work great.
Also some of these companies make an amazing amount of shapes is various
sizes.
I have seen a variety of leaf shaped punches....these can be quite handy for
armour modeller and diorama builders....thousand of leafs from a single sheet
of paper! Just prepaint a sheet of paper and then punch away.

Cheers,
Joe

Really nice, Joe - you've got your work cut out, but what a great idea, and excellent planning. Am looking forward to following progress!

Ahoy All,
One more to share.......progress on WWII U-35.
Over the weekend, I worked on the deck platform....added some PE mesh to
represent the grating found on the deck.
I also bore out some rectangular holes on the sides of the tower and added
some PE scavenged from the scrap box to represent the drainage/vent holes.
I must add more of these to the starboard side as U-35's drainage/vents were
not the same on both sides of the tower. Also to correct the pattern of these tiny
holes, some of them will be filled in with CA...this should give a good represention
of their pattern and grouping.
Once this is done, I will start to assemble the tower and move on to tower
details.

The process is long but it is fun.....
Hope you enjoy......

Looking excellent Joe
Your (usual) level of workmanship makes a pleasure to see your U-boots
It will be an interesting looking conning tower with those big white numbers! (am I right?)
Keep up the good work

Skip, good to see you back cruising the site.

 YES ! HE'S BACK ! ALRIGHT!
Rui, Nice to here from you...hope all is well.
The white numbers will make U-35 look different than what we usually see
of other u-boats. I am only debating as whether she will carry the prewar
strips or the wartime paint scheme.
Dougie Martindale and Hans Mair (U-35.com) have been very helpful with
providing me with some photos to help with this conversion as there is not
very much available showing the deck mounted stern torpedo tube.
The conversion is progessing at rather slow speed as I am putting much
emphasis on her tower since it was considerably different from the rest.
Must get back to the shipyard now.......HHHUUUM.....Now was that Bremen
or Kiel?
:-) :-) :-)

Hi Joe,
There are five photos on Ebay which might interest you. They show an original VII in dry-dock. The boat has air trunks fitted as well as school markings so I reckon the photos show the boat after it had been relegated from a frontline flotilla to a school flotilla. I don't have access to my books at the moment or I would tell you which boat it is (the V and the school markings make identification possible). It isn't U 35, of course, but the photos are excellent -

Hi, to everybody. Hi Joe. I had returned after long time away. ( I have a lot work), sorry very much.
Your u-boat conversion is fantastic. Your details on your models are very interesting in order to apply in our future models. I will be following your building process, learning....because I want to know how to make the floor of the connig tower with this detail.
Good luck, Joe, and take care.
Best regards form Spain,

Well Joe,
What can I say, to be honest I am speachless, which anyone who knows me will tell you is not some thing they would have expected unless I was dead and even then I expect I will be moaning about it.
I am really grateful that you are prepared to share your work with others, this is not always the case with talented modellers, GOOD ON YOU MATE.
If I don`t have reason to post again or chance to post you directly
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Ahoy all,
Here are couple of shots of the ongoing conversion.
The stern torpedo tube has been filled in, as the Type VII A torpedo tube was
external and located on the upper deck.
The VII A was a single rudder boat so the original kit rudder was modified
as per drawings and the Y support cut and rebuild to accomodate a single
rudder.
More photos soon.....
Enjoy have a nice day and happy modeling,
