Hey everybody I'm new here. So I hope I'm putting this in the right place. I've been looking around for a Type II uboat model for awhile now. I see that Mirage makes some in 1/400 scale. But I'd kind of like something bigger then that. So I found a resin 1/200 scale built by Planet Models. I can't seem to find any kind of information about it anywhere. Any of you guys have any experience with this kit? Is it a decent kit for a complete resin kit newb such as me. The price seems right.

Ahoy modelbuilder82,

Welcome to MSW....you'll enjoy this place....there is a great bunch of people
here.

Now on to u-boats....

I have heard of Planet Models which seem to affiliated with CMK, but have not
seen any of their submarine kits. The net seems to have only line drawings
of the different kits available. They seem to have a nice selection of the various
u-boat and midget sub types. If their quality is like CMK then they are good kits.

A note about resin....it must be washed throughly and primed properly for
good paint adhesion.

Resin can only be glued using CA glue(super glue).

When sanding resin....use a dust mask and eye protection as the fine dust
is an irritant.

That said, if your heart is set on a Type II, then your choices are limited to
1:400 scale Mirage kits and the 1:200 PM kits.

Do note that ICM Special Navy will issue a Type II in 1:72 scale in the
spring of 2007.....great kit I am sure, as their Type XXIII in the same scale
is awesome.

If you are a newbie...allow me to suggest some plastic u-boat kits in 1:144 scale.

Revell Type VII-D minelayer
Revell Type XXI
ICM Type XXIII

These kits are recent releases and extremely well detailed.

Also available in 1:72 scale:

Revell Type VII-C u-boat
Revell Type VII-C/41 Atlantic variant
ICM Specail Navy Type XXIII
ICM Special Navy Type II.......spring 2007 release

These are larger kits and again extremely well detailed.

The prices of the above kits are all very reasonable because of the
mass production of plastic injection compared to the more limited
resin kits.

Have a look around the site you will see lots of fine builds by the guys
here and feel free to ask questions anytime....

Hope all of this is of help...
Have a nice day and happy modelling,

Joe

Actually I've built the 1/72 Type VIIc. I got it on a whim. Loved that one. Great detail right out of the box. Mostly I enjoy building World War 2 aircraft. Not the usual mustang or thunderbolt though. To overdone for me. I like the tubby buffalo and that sort of thing. But I've been getting into ship modeling more and more. Mostly Submarines. Although I've been itching to actually work on one of my three 1:350th Titanic lol. I just finished the USS Oregon a few months ago. But other then that I've been out of it for a bit.

I'm the 350 scale man. I built a Titanic once and didn't like it...it was the academy kit. If you choose to delve into the 350 scale warships, ask me cause I've either built them, got them, or at least opened up a box and looked at the parts and directions.

I've been looking into doing some 1/350 battleships. World War II of course. I have the Trumpeter USS England. Just need to put her together. I've seen the academy Titanic model built up nice. But It does have some serious fit issues. One of mine is going to the dumpster. The second one I actually won, it came with all the GMM pe stuff for it. And the other is the updated one. I drilled out all the portholes on that one, and put some clear plastic behind them. I hope I'm not the only one that starts something and then gets bored and puts it up for a year or so.
