Erin Boyd (aka Adolph) built the most expected 1/350 HMS Hood OOB. Definetly an excellent job.
Enjoy his wonderfull work,
Skipper

There is quite a bit of aftermarket out there now. One thing that got the fanatics all riled up was aparently the angle of the top of the main gun turrets was incorrect. Now as to the aftermarket, Trumpeter has a set of metal gun tubes and propellers, Toms Gold Medal and WEM have done a set of photoetched for it and Lionroar has the expensive everythng but the kitchen sink set which even has the replacement main gun turrets. The kit is Trumpeter's second foray into the 350 scale battleship field and from the way the purists panned the NOrth Carolina, it is an improvement. As for me, well this kit is still number one on my hit list....maybe Santa might goof up and drop one down my chimney?????

Hi Steve
:) Big chimney, hey??

Just kidding with you - I know for sure that no models will be on my presents...
Back to the Hood,
although there are some flaws, I think it is the most accurate Hood yet - and if you really what to make it accurate, you just have to open your wallet, or scratchbuilt the needed parts!

Thanks for the excellent layout job Skipper, makes the rather long article much easier to read.
I may put some PE railings around the kit at some stage in the near future but that would be the final touch!

Just to show that one should never make assumptions I presumed that he Hoods props would be inward turning when viewed from the rear
Rod Ackers sent met the following email with this information that is important to builders of this kit,
Hi Erin.
Just seen your out of the box HMS Hood.
One glaring error I'm afraid. The props are on the wrong side. The props on RN ships are always outward turning viewed from astern.
The reason being that they offer greater efficiency than inward turning.
However, inward turning offer greater manoeuvrability for some ships, though not for RN capital ships.
I am building the Trumpeter Hood and I have bought the detail kit from White Ensign Models to enhance an already fine kit.
Regards
Rod Ackers

Here is alink to the Hood Assn site that has a good clear pic of the port side props to on the ship assist others with getting the rotation correct
