Ahoy Shipmates

What do you consider as the most beautiful or best looking battleship?

The Hood, Bismark, Yamato, Iowa class, Dreadnought etc?

Anyone following the Great White Fleet series of instalments will know what I currently consider as the most beautiful or best looking battleship yip its the USS Connecticut.

It epitomizes steam powered battleships of the pre WW 1 era in my view.

Pictures speak louder than words or something like that (LOL) so I conclude with these all time personal favourites.

I love this action shot.

The picture showing the bow and her lines and her name in large letters above her bridge it dont get much better than that.

Regards

Sean

The Iowa - hands down -no contest - once you walk her decks there is no other choice, course ten years in the Navy MAY have me a little biased

I agree with John, sorta. I would say the Missouri in her war paint.

Once the Atlantic bow was added to the Gneisenau she trimmed up to a beautiful ship

These are all great choices. On the other hand ALL battleships are beautiful. For me though it's the old lady herself, HMS Warspite.

Form follows function and boy did she ever fulfill her function.

While there's no doubt that both Bismark and Yamato had great lines, I've never seen lines as striking, balanced and beautiful as the Iowa class, especially in their WW II configuration.

Well here is a big surprise.....the Yamato initial configuration. Long sweeping bow and uncluttered decks and superstructure. It almost looks like a yahct. Not that the Iowa clss doesn't rank real high in my book as well.

Yeah, one that can launch an 18" shell 20+ miles. So much for a friendly regatta. :-)
