Hi all!
I've just published a brief historical note about the PT-596 written by T. Garth Connelly, author of PT Boats In Action published by Squadron/Signal Publications.
If you wish you can read it here. At the bottom of the page you'll find the link to the english version.
Ciao
Fabio

Fabio,
You might want to revisit that article. Either some typos occured or some of the information is questionable:
The MK13 torpedo has a diameter of 22.4" (569mm), not 21" (533mm). [Ref: OP 950]
The MK50 launcher is for 5" (127mm) rockets, not 0.5" (12.7mm).
Norfolk 65 is specifically for steel vessels, not wood. [Ref: Instruction for Painting and Cementing Vessels of the United States Navy - 1943]

Fabio,
Roger, that.
Additional material, including lots of drawings and photos, can be found in John Lambert and my "Allied Coastal Forces of World War II", volume 2, which was published by Conway Maritime Press in 1993. Among the drawings in that book are those for PT 596, which I drew in 1983.

I know this is a great kit, I just wish they would have done a boat that was actually in combat.

Hi Kenny,
I'd agree on that, can it be altered to an actual craft that was in combat? Any thoughts anyone???

That is the 64 thouand dollar question? If you could option parts you could build a whole series from an early war with minimal armament up to the full blown ship sinker version. Maybe Italerie is planning on doing a "JFK" version as well.

Hi Steve,
I'll wait and see what the experts say, if an earlier version is possible I'd be inclined to go that way.
Cheers
