I don't weather, I guess my approach is this is a display model. I do streek my decks once in a while trying to show different wood grain. one of these days I'll include soem scale little people to my aircraft carriers

Drybrushing parts with their original colour lightened with a little white helps also.
Or just plain old ruststreaks, or even old paint showing where the paint wore off, or black scratches... even just smeared open black circles on the hull are good (where the tugboats "hit" the hull with their tires or rubber fenders when they push her into the berth)
Steve's got a good point concerning the decks, although it's a little bit more work.. you paint the deck one colour, and then paint some planks with the same colour but a little lightened, and others a little darker ( but only one plank in a certain spot, and repeat that;. not 5 planks adjacent to another...)
Not so much options to weather a ship actually..
good luck!!!
