Greeting all,

Some updates form Glenn on the Lighthouse. He's added some nice touches to the top of the building and its almost had a first undercoat.

Cheers

Hi Alan

Excellent building to compose your dio!
It will add some colour into the MASSIVE Diorama your making
Even with the poor image quality, we can see that the devil is in the details!
Glenn is doing a bright job

Keep us posted

There is really a great quantity of details here! Rui is right about the pics quality!! never compress your jpegs under 4/10 but the level of detailing is really good, I like the tower with the chains, it does look like my kind of things -who is going to paint it -You or Glen?

Hi Guys,

Glad you like it. I think its brilliant. Re the painting that's down to me lol, lol. The whole build is a series of sub assemblies so can be taken apart for painting inside and out. There is a lot of detail in the build so painting it and weathering it will be fun.

Paul (aka NATO 802) is kindly providing me with a series of maps and charts both for the inside of the Lighthouse and the boats and various other elements have also to be added.

I'm still researching wartime schemes, so the final colour hasn't been deciided. I have been sent one interesting reference of St Anthony's lighthouse (Falmouth) from 1942 and I am hoping I can find a few more.

The structure should reach me towards the end of March and should allow me to finalise the layout for it on the pier as by then I hope to have the remaining major pieces built. Once I have finalised its position I can start the build on the pier proper.

BTW the PT Boat arrived today, it does come in a very LARGE BOX lol, lol. Hmmmmmmm, I wonder :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Cheers

Al

PS:

Some update pics from Glenn:

I don't think I can say more that "magnificent!" *drooooool* LOL

Question... how are you guys planning to get this lighthouse across the Atlantic without it being reduced in matchsticks?

Hi jba,

Some more decent pictures.

Hi Rudi,

Paul (aka nato 208) is coming over to England in March and then on to Visit Normandy. We had arranged to meet up while he was here, so he's hand carrying the building over.

Photobucket are doing a bit or site management by the looks of it so I hope it doesn't affect the link.

Cheers

Al

Hi Alan

You're going to need at least a couple of Ol'Fishermen there to make it more dramatic
#1 -"So many young lads!!!"
#2 - "Aye..."
#1 - "Their doing their service for King and Country..."
#2 - "Aye..."
#1 - "I wish I could go with them"
#2 - "Naaah!!!"

(The dialogue is a joke - but I think that two old chaps near the Lighthouse would be nice! Sorry if I made your project more difficult)

Hi Rui,

These are Glenn's figures he has included for scale, I'm not sure if he ever intends to paint them they turn up a lot lol, lol.

Actually I have a couple of old fishermen types lol, lol.

An ARW on the roof would be quite appropriate, civilian or military. A ligthhouse keeper come harbour master, who knows.

There will be figure activiry all over the pier, which will be hard to get right; each small scene separate but yet inter-connected blending the whole.

FIgures and more figures :-) :-) :-) :-)

Oh and Seagulls, the odd rat or two, a cat and who knows maybe a flock of sheep with lassie in control :-) :-) :-) :-)

Seriously though I'd like to include a flag pole, some signal flags, or a signaller with a flag somewhere once I find an appropriate body

Cheers

The new pics are really good! The rats I know Warriors are doing some nice ones, but if you find some 1/35 cats please tell! I know there are some existing, but more in 1/32 and they look like small tigers more like. same thing withe seaguls: a pier without seaguls is a sad pier

i would say you really have to. Why not thinking of an "event" which would make some faces all turn to a specific point in the dio? just an idea..
Even a flag raising could work, or maybe the arriving of that Elco thing in the middle of the other boats
just some ideas

Tamiya had some cats (two diffrent positions) but they came in German Armour Boxes (a Tiger and/or a Stug?)

It just gets better every time I see it. I'ld put some furniture in that one room (if you can access it or there isn't some already there. As for animals, yea a ton of seagulls and if you have cats and scruying rats maybe a dog laying down next to some old geezer in a rocking chair. Just those little tiny scene stealers that people marvel at when they discover them.

Whoa! This is something else Alan! (Ok, so it's still a lighthouse... )
Yep the details are magnifique, and this ain't gonna be complete without a flock of seagulls (maybe on a new wave? *groan*)
There are plenty of ledges to cover with birds and guano!
One thing bugging me is where the top wall pillar and the rounded wall don't quite meet? (next to the vertical ladder) This probably is accurate, but loooks kind of incomplete, for want of a better description?
Looks to be the kind of lighthouse where ETO tankers and the LRDG would meet over calvados and Twinings... :-)
And I hope you're paying for a seat next to Paul to put it on...!
Cheers

Thanks guys, Brad the whole build is in modules to make it as easy as possible for Alan to paint. Everything snugs up tight, but to place the upper deck and genny room level on I need a little wiggle room to make it past the rounded shape. Some loose boards will accompany the build for Alan to add when he makes it permanent.

Jean, thank you very much for your compliments, I am honored because I am a very big admirer of your work. I love your Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, Half - Life, Geiger, influences, which also happen to be mine. Like Salvador Dali [ sp ? ] I like the surreal approach to non historical builds.
If I may ask if I can p.m. you about your surreal builds, I was wondering about maybe a future collaboration on a project of this type. Half - Life ? Geiger Aliens?, The Thing ?, Waterworld ?, something totally different, yet sci-fi based.
Glenn
