I just found out that there is a box for Squadron waiting for me at the house. I do believe that the CSS David has arrived in port!

Hi All,
For a presently one eye old fart I am very close to finishing the Airfix Vosper MTB, all I need now is two good eyes and the doctor to tell me that I don`t need to spend 45 minutes of each hour lying on my right hand side, got to go my 15 minutes upright as a human being are over .
PeteV
or should it be

Hi Gunny
Regarding the Rules, does it mean that the boat must be armed with torpedoes?
Would a patrol boat, for example a PBR qualify as acceptable?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, just not sure.
Cheers

Hi Dus!
No such thing as a dumb question here at MSW!
Well, to answer yer question quite simply, I'm afraid not, mate...the campaign is centered around the PT boat only....now, if your up for a "Riverine Military Small Craft" campaign, well, why not propose one, my friend? Running a campaign is a total gas, (I absolutely LOVE it!), and I know of some other MSW members who would really like to see such a campaign in the makings....think about it, mate, if you have any questions, just ask!
Cheers,

Hmmm, do I sense another MSW campaign in the mist?
OK, mate, if you want to propose a new campaign here at MSW, first, you'll want to Click Here , to go to our Campaigns/Group Builds Headquarters...in the upper right hand side of the page, look for a tag that says "Submit a New Campaign", click on that, and read over the info there. . .
Then, think about what you would like to have in your campaign (you can use the former campaigns here as guidelines if you wish) write up a game plan, and submit your idea by using the webform.
Your campaign will then move into the "Waiting for Approval" section, as members enlist.
If your campaign becomes approved, it will move into the "Debarkation Zone" of our Campaign Headquarters page, until it's start date. . .
That's it in a nutshell, mate, and when the campaign is rolling, you as the campaign manager are responsible for creating an award, and basically generating and keeping the interest flowing (see active threads in the forum for our current campaigns to illustrate this). . .
Any questions, mate, just ask, and as your Campaign Administrator here at MSW, I'll do my best to help your campaign along, for sure!
Well, whaddaya think, mate?

Hi Gunny,
I'm planning on a couple of WEM 1/350 Fairmile 'D's for my entry, a MTB and an MGB.
Now if only we had a Italian MAS boat (not a S-boat copy).
Now I don't suspose a Flak-lighter is a valid entry is it? Gunny?
As I just happen to have one sitting in my stash waiting for the right reason to build it.
Ciao
Luciano

Ahoy, Luciano!
Sounds great to me, my friend...we have a nice, long campaign here, that will allow ample time for multiple entry's and detailed builds, so bring em on!
Yeah, second that mate!
Sorry mate, not this time...PT types only in this one, technical description of the f-lighter reads:
"The Germans called the new design Marine-fahrprahme (MFP), which means naval perambulators. The design used a beaching craft with a very shallow draft. Drawing only four feet of water, these modified landing barges could get in very close to the beach. They were 163 feet long so they were slightly over twice the length of the PT boats. In spite of their ungainly design, they were capable of 10 knots with their diesel engines. What put them in a different league from normal cargo barges was their armament. Not only were they partly armored but they were heavily armed with guns up to 75mm to 88mm in size. "An MFP could hold its own with a destroyer, let alone a PT which had nothing more powerful than a 20-mm machine gun to shoot with." (History of United States Naval Operations of World War II, Vol. IX Sicily-Salerno-Anzio, 1954, Samuel Eliot Morison, at page 189)"
Would be a cool build, for sure, but just not in this one....Thanks for your support, Luciano!
Cheers,
~Gunny

Anybody have any tips on painting realistic wood? The David's hull was made of wood. I thought of using a dark brown wash first and the drybrushing tan. Any techniques?

Shipmates,
Gator had asked about making "Realistic" wood. Since I've also built quite a few WWI Aircraft, I have a method that fairly well works for me.
First paint the "wood" area a bright yellow, I usually use insignia yellow. But the critical thing is to let it dry thoroughly, I normally wait at least 1 full day. Next I then take whatever tint I want for the type of wood being rerpresented ...... I normally favor "Panzer Red". Use an extremely thinned mixture with an old stiff bristle brush, and "Streak" on the wood to simulate the grain. Afterwards, I normally will use pastel chalks (dust) to lighten or darken softly. I advise try it on a piece of scrap plastic first to get the "Touch" you are happiest with.
HTH....... Feel free to ask any further questions. Semper Fi, Bruce
