I can’t vote for any of them. I’m inspired by everything and don’t have one thing that sticks out above the rest.

I'm in for other. Naval history, whether it be from television, online articles or historical accounts. I see something that peaks my interest and then I'm off and researching the history. I build to suit my historical interest.

I'm lean towards Kenny's Naval History, not in Other catagory but Movie and Television. Whether it's fiction in movie format (Apocalypse Now for PBR, Murphy's War for U-boat) or WWII documentary (all big bore guns from battleships turned to starboard side and fire all together) and current News (the smoke from rotating barrels from Phalanx CIWS) in television format.

Voted. I went with Movies and TV. Three little words, Victory at Sea. Every time I watch it I want to run out and build a ship.

I voted too -though i would say it's my imagination that is the main inspiration, one imagination feeds with lots of stuff, movies or history facts are certainly huge feeders for my imagination!
Actually I feel like I bend History to my very special needs

Wow, hard to choose just one. I would have to toggle between seeing completed models here, and prior military experience. But since I spent 25 years riding ships for the US Navy that is probably where the majority of my inspiration originates...

I had to go with imagination as my dio ideas usually start with a picture of a scene in my head, then I gather the information to find out if it was a possible event, ie: ships together at the same time in a specific location.

Hi Mark and the rest

This is a though one, mainly because:
- My Favorite modeling subject is Midget Submarines and Manned Torpedoes, so, whenever I catch one of this contraptions, here we go again!!!
- My Second favorite modeling subject: Submarines, I have a relatively big stash, so every now and then, here we go again
- Ship models mainly WWII and Modern, are made because:
- feel it 's the right time to build it (current project);
- there's a Campaign running that the model fits;
- saw or read something that featured the model;
- It was one of my "Navy days" subjects (mainly models related with missions/tasks not necessarely my own ships - which there's no models available!)
So it's difficult to choose just one option on this poll

Ahoy, mates!
Only 16 voters out there?....sigh...so far, our imagination is the birth ideas of our builds. Cast yer vote, the poll can be found on our Home Page, look for the survey box, a bit of thought, and one click, is all that it takes!

Shipmates,
As I posted in the comments section, for me it has to be History first. It always amazes me what individuals can accomplish when put in situations. But a REAL close second, is the kits we see made up here. Especially when they are out of the ordinary, run of the mill kits. It always sparks the imagination, and gets me thinking I can actually build a decent model !!!! Keep up the Great work, everyone...........Bruce

Ahoy all,

Hard question to answer but I guess for me is the
interest in the u-boat branch of the KM.

Much research is required when it comes to building one of these machines.
Yes, there are books out there but you go find specific reference for a specific boat.......
that is the challenge.

There are only few boats that are well documented
so trying to build the "other" boats......
research . research and more research.

That is all the fun and in the process you pick up
more knowledge and then finally when the model
is complete.....you feel a sense of accomplishment!

Back to the yards....I got U-35 to finish.......
and March 25, is coming up fast!

Cheers,
Joe

As I don't really build maritime models (just enjoy looking at them ), I applied your question to my individual interests... hope you don't mind?

For me I guess I would have to say Reference Books, although in a very roundabout way. Generally what happens is I'll see a model, read an article, historical novel, or see a movie/doccie and then question the accuracy (always in the case of Hollywood) or just wonder about the subject. I'll then go and research the topic and thus the interest grows (or wans) and I may or may not get inspired...

Nice question...
