Ahoy, mates!

I've been mulling a thought over for some time, and I've come to the point of asking quite simply, "How many of our members/readers/lurkers, actually read the front page of Model Shipwrights daily?"
A simple yay or nay is sufficient, or you can expand on your answer with your thoughts, feelings, or even suggestions...

What say ye?

If you have comments or questions please post them here.

Thanks!

No.

I rarely check it out.
I come in through Armorama and check there home page then make my way here by the forums.

(Remember I’m not a ship modeler. Even if I have now build more of them then anything else. )

I usually have a look every couple of days to see any new features, so to answer your question, No, not daily.

I use firefox and have set 2 shortcuts on the Personal bar -one with HF latest posts, one another with MSW latest posts+junk, and I check both at the same time.
I never go to the front page, but then if you ask this to the maybe 15-20 regular participants of those forums you might get the same answer

Now YOU have the right numbers Mark, YOU know how many hits the front page gets.
As there's a good Google referencement of the site, i can't doubt the front page is certainly visited quite a lot

I'm embarrassed to admit I don't check the MSW', nor any Kitmaker site' bar HF's, homepage regularly - let alone daily.

This is due to my method of entry (navigation-wize) onto the Network... HF's homepage, open new tab for PM's if necessary, while opening HF's LP page. I then respond to new HF and Staff posts in that order. Only then do I venture forth into the rest of the Network. It really depends on the subject title for the thread that grabs my attention. That said, I rely heavily on the NLP page for notification of new features/reviews/news, almost all of which I try to read, regardless of site or genre.

You question though has given my a moment of self-reflection. If I'm doing this, so are others. Which equate to the possibility that HF's homepage isn't being viewed as much as I should hope.

My own resolution.... view all the homepages within the Network daily...

Thanks Mark for the thought-provoking question.

Brother Tarok,
I'm quite surprised at the early answers. . .I myself enter the network through the Kitmaker homepage (which logs me on to ALL of the sites at once!) and then proceed to each home page, one by one daily...I must be part of the minority (or the only one???). . .let's see what everyone else has to say!

The front page is my home page, so I always scan over it before going to the latest post.

I view it daily sometimes just a glance other times a full read/review.

Like Mark, I enter through the KitMaker Homepage.
But I don't think how the staff navigate the site is what's important as I'm sure we all do it a certain way as to make our jobs easier.

I do visit each site at least once a day, and normally read through most of the posts especially the new ones. Although many times I do not respond. I also try to check the photos uploads each day, time permitting.

I have MSW home page set up as a favorite. I go to it several times a day, but I only see enough to scroll down past the list of reviews to get to the list of latest posts. I can rationalize this by saying that I'm on the site enough now days that if there is a review, or news item that I'm interested in I'll see it on the list of latests posts nearly as fast as if I looked over the home page.

Now that you mention it I do feel somewhate guilty because I can certainly see the amount of time and effort put in to make the home page look as good as it does.

Mark I feel like I'm one of the minority as I go into the Armorama homepage first then Aeroscale then MSW finally Kitmaker and British Bulldogs.
I only visit Aeroscale before MSW because my campiagn entries are progressing fast, otherwise its the other way round.

I check the home page for new News and reviews/features before I enter the forums and I must admit to not using the latest posts section.

Which makes me think perhaps I shouldn't allow direct access of the LP page via bookmarks or setting it as your browser homepage (as we use to before the breakup). I don't think anyone grasps how much server power it takes to draw/create the LP pages (with the other sites LP data as well). I want people to use them obviously, but they are not the end-all-be-all of the sites. Heck most forum software doesn't even offer a "latest posts" option (and this is probably why, and because people miss things via this method).

Exactly my point, Jim. . .It totally boggles my mind, just imagining how many users are missing the dynamics of the site, as a whole. . .

I normally come in through Armorama and then use the tab at the top of the page to get to MSW.

My bookmark brings me straight to the homepage which I find is an important starting point to get a summary of 'what's happening'.
Anyway, I was brought up to always enter someone elses place via a front door.

I go to the Armorama front page and then to the MSW home page via the tab at the top. I go over both pages pretty thoroughly.

Very interesting, indeed. . .
Didn't really expect as many "nay's" as we have received thus far though!

I know that a large amount of our traffic is forum related, but just think of how much information that you may be missing out on. . .if you rely on forums alone to bring you announcements of new reviews, features, and news, there's a great chance that you're going to miss the announcement in the forums, from other activity pushing it along to a rapid demise.

The front page of each of our satellite sites here at KitMaker serves as a "bulletin board" for all the latest new additions, working in stride with the "what's new" section of each homepage, respectfully (everyone knows where the "What's New" section is now, don't they?... ) to bring the members up to date information from all facets of the hobby. Plus you'll also find other interesting tids-of-bits like surveys and opinion polls, quotes, daily history lessons, and the like.

The Kitmaker network is a living, breathing, dynamic beast of a software package just waiting to be utilized by each and every member, available 24-7, whenever you need it! I'm not telling you HOW to live your Kitmaker experience, mates, just trying to show you how much MORE fun and enjoyment that you can be adding to your daily surf here. . .the amount of information stored in these databanks is incredible, waiting to be tapped and used by YOU, the modeling members of our community!

Ok, done for now...

Interesting indeed
(silent all the way - just wanted to see what happens)!

I always start via MSW homepage
Why, may you ask??
In the same manner that when you go to a shop, you always see the window first and sometimes that's what makes you enter, browse, stay a little and sometimes buy something!
I have tried to make a uniform, consistent and atractive highlights, thumbnails for Features and MOD Features, the only areas where we can give a little of creativeness - the rest is equal to all Kitmaker areas (links for Forum posts, to reviews, to walkarounds and news).
When I spend a couple of hours (sometimes more) making a feature and thinking what should go where and why it should be there it's because I want that feature to look professional. The same thing happens with the Homepage Graphics - it has to look professional! I know you never should buy a book by the cover, but if a good book has a good cover....
Thanks for your inputs mates and thank you Mark for making this question

Gunny,

I always start at the home page, scan it and then open what is of interest, only now I do it at half speed as I am sure you will understand.
