Ahoy mates,

I need a 1/72 WWll German flag complete with the swastika in the center for my Sboote (and future VllC U Boat). Any ideas where I can find this? I can use the stock flag that comes with the kit but I hate to have a flag with a big white moon in the middle without the proper swastika. I apologize if this is a sensitive subject for some but I only want an authentic look for my model when completed.

Thank you,
Gary

I just took a very fine black ink pen and added the swastica for mine. Used a Bic type ink so it wouldn't drift rather than one of those gel pens

You could try this also.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:War_Ensign_of_Germany_1938-1945.svg You can download the image to file, then use your software to reduce it to the size you need. You could then print it and put it onto paper for you flag.

I think I like this idea also as it allows for some trial and error...

Thanks all, much appreciated!

hey all,

As a side note what would be better copy a image(flag or what ever) to a sticker type paper or maybe regular paper then just a little glue to hold it together (kinda like folding it like a sandwich and glueing it ). Can the photo software reduce the image to 1/350 and print the image on both sides of the paper??? That would be great!

That's an interesting site Kym. Thanks for pointing it out.

Here is a bit of a question? That site shows the Nazi Red ensign, then it shows a "German U-Boat Ensign" that is the same thing but white. I wasn't familiar with a separate white ensign for U-Boats? The one U-Boat flag that really stands out to me was red, and it was the one flown under the U.S. flag on the surrendered U-505.

I've been using the same method as Rodger for years.
I use my photo software to make a mirror image (one click) of the flag. I then copy both sides of the flag to a single image connected at the pole end and save it to a folder. I then import it to a word document as I would clip art and resize there. Yuo can get a pretty small image this way.
Before folding it over, I let the water/glue mixture sit for a bit which softens the paper, allowing you to create nice natural folds and furls in the flag.

Rodger:

Now I certainly don't claim to know everything here but.....I think the white ones that had swasticas on them had something to do with Flag Rank. I too am only familiear with the red one

I've read a technique somewhere (sorry) about printing the flags on facial tissue taped flat to a piece of paper. I haven't tried yet, but I will and let you know the results.

Ok, it works.

1. Tape a piece of white facial tissue to a piece of paper.
2. Size and print your flag on the tissue/paper combo.
3. Cut the tissue paper from the paper and carefully seperate the two plys of facial tissue.
4. Now you have a flag printed on both sides. I would put a couple of coats of dull coat on it to seal it.
