I'm building Revell PT-117 with WEM PE set.

It's ordered, hope its in stock or it'll be a really quick build

It's here and I'm ready to start. Will start posting pics this evening.
I have a colour picture of it in grey so thats the colour scheme I'm going for.
Dont have an airbrush so painting will be a challenge but should turn out ok.
Looks like the deck will be a pain - its planked on the model, but not in real life apparently so nice sanding, filling, scraping job to start, hooray

Couple of pics - first one is a reference plan shot, I'll edit in Photoshop to turn it into a plan and print full size. Then I know where everything was before the hacking.

It'll look much worse before it looks better.....

Heres my next update, in case anyone thinks nothings happening...

The planking is nearly gone as are most of the unwanted mouldings except the hatches. Putty still to be rubbed down, filling in grooves and slips of the knife (my speciality). Also the windshield has been removed ready for the etch.

Just for some variety have started carving the mouldings off the torpedo tubes ready for the etched mountings.

Might actually get to the point of painting and glueing next week, well maybe not.

Quick update and a picture.

Deck is painted although I might change my mind about the American deck grey seems a bit dark although the photo I have shows it to be darker than the hull. I'll paint the superstructure etc light grey (see the picture - oerlikon already painted) I think it will look better. Will match the navy painting orders I have seen sort of....

Started the weponry for a bit of variety - see picture:

Will have some more by end of Monday (bank holiday here in the UK) if the wife doesnt give me too many chores....

Well here is the next update a bit later than promised. 2 pics tonight - I'll take some more tomorrow.

First twin .50 cal set made up shown with the kit version. Well worth the effort even though it's not perfect. The next one will be better, shame there isnt a spare, oh well... all good practise.

Various bits and pieces here - started to build up the superstructure (if thats the right term for a pt boat) before painting. The front hatches are on backwards due to poor observation on my part. I'm not prising them off again! Oerlikon is dry fit at the moment, the sight has already been knocked off (found it, thank goodness for perfect eyesight) The controls are in place and need painting up. Chartroom door has been on and off 3 times due to a poor fit of parts originally then a poor adjustment of fit by yours truly. It fits fine now which is lucky as I dont think I could face removing it again
Spent a happy hour cleaning up the edges of 24 deadlight frames - will glue them on tomorrow.
Big task next is to paint the hull and then attach it - keep putting it off as I am not big on painting and havent got an airbrush yet.

Thats about it for now - more over the weekend hopefully.

I really love those 50 cals. I built the 109 which is the same kit and sratched out several fixes (about 5 years ago) My lament was the inability to find replacement 50 cals, which was quite a shocker due to the myriad of 72nd scale aircraft out there that cried out for them. Look forward to seeing this one complete. May have to ask you to cast those guns for me

They do look good against the kit parts dont they (although see below - not quite so good now)

Well I'm having a bit of a nightmare now. Due to work commitments not getting much done. Then the .50 cals took a direct hit from the wife's tidying up craze. She shoved a bottle into my modelling box (the perils of not having a permanent workspace) right on top of them. Hopefully I can straighten them out but I might have to model them as battle damaged!!
Really under the cosh now but hopefully I'll get finished. Get some piccies done at the weekend.
