Ok JB and Skipper, white wake from an outboard motor.

Great reference shot of an outboard wake, mate, (one of my favorite sights this time of year, btw )

Hmmm, comparing this shot with your build, you may actually have to add a little more white drybrushing than less....a little more churned up, unless my eyes are deceiving me

yep, that's definitely a great reference picture -you can see here that there is actually some depth in the water where there are the ripples, depth and smooth transition of colors between the blue water and the white foam; You can't get such a smooth effect with dry brushing, while you can with using some carefully white tinted acrylic gels -the kind that are sold in art shops.
but then I really think you got the shape of the ripples right already Kenny!

Truthfully, I can't finish the wake until the figure holding the outboard is finished. The way this is assembled, figure and motor are one subassembly, boat the other, I had to cut a slot for the prop shaft to fit into. I'll finish the figure/motor assembly, slide it into place, and then fill the slot with the wake from the outboard motor. Then I'll be able to blend more colors in.

Looking good Kenny,

Will you have any crew or cargo in the boat?

The wake as it is gives me the impression that the boat is moving at slow (relative) speed through moving water. As if it were traveling up a river.

Hey Luciano.
I've got three troopers going in hear along with a couple of panzerfaust crates.

Paul, wakes not done yet. I'll be adding the bow and stern wakes as soon as I finish the figure.

Looking really good, Gator! I loved the underside wear, but now it will be covered - but the water and wake look fantastically real! Cargo will be a natural finish. Maybe a few lines and some wet patches? Keep us posted!

Update photos: Still need some drybrushing on the wakes.

You would be correct, my friend. I've got some drybrushing of the wave tops to do and I'll take lots of pictures.

Really looks fantastic Kenny. I think the only thing I would have done different is to make the water more greenish so as to depict a river like the Rhine or the Volga (everyone knows the Danube was blue....at least that's what the song says)

Actually Steve, it could be any river in late summer or early fall of 1944 or spring of 1945. One of the trooper is carrying a Sturmgewehr 44.

The Rhine River is similar in color to the Mississippi...it is that greenish brown color. It may change to a blueish the closer it gets to the sea, I haven't seen it much past Mainz. The Neckar and the Main about the same. These are the only ones I can attest to having crossed them all multiple times and at various times of year

Cool. I glanced over a map of Europe during lunch. You've got the Ruhr, Roer, Oder, Maas (Netherlands)...all sorts of rivers that action took part on.

Ahoy mates!

I'm calling this one done. The water splashes were made with clear silicone caulk.

What a great build. You really nailed this one. The interaction between the water splashes and the figures in the boat are great.

Good inspiration for the upcoming Riverine campaign. I am planning on doing something similar with a M113 although the water would be brown and the M113 would be traveling much slower in the water.

Thanks for sharing

Hey Frank.
I took the clear plastic tube out of a windex bottle and started globbing on clear silicone caulk.
Then, I took a scrap piece of styrene and started moving it around until I got a shape that I like.
After it dryed, I cut off the little whisps of caulk and coated it with a pretty heavy coat of acrylic gel medium. Once dry, It's ready to be mounted.

If you guys want, I'll do a step by step this weekend.

You did a "bang-up" job with those splashes. Do a write up as I think a lot of folks would like to learn how to do this. The size of what you made could probably transfer directy into a 350 scale main gun splash for someone doing a waterline BB diorama
