Flagship Models is known for bringing us unique projects in the past. They send along word of yet another great subject, the USS Chimo.

I am working feverishly turning out new kits and here is the latest. It is the 1/192 scale (14.5") model kit of the USS Chimo ironclad torpedo boat. The Chimo has a very interesting history behind her and you can read a brief clip here: USS Chimo Info All our ship models have interesting histories behind them since they were on the cutting edge of naval warfare at the time and many lessons (good and bad) were learned. The Chimo is no different as will read. She was designated a torpedo boat. They called "mines" then, torpedoes and the Chimo's function was to plant these explosives to clear river obstacles and mines placed by the enemy. Later on in the war, torpedo boats used these torpedoes to sink ships.

The Chimo kit is accurately designed to the last detail using actual drawings for the Casco class ironclads. Everything you see on the box art except the base, pedestals, and rigging is included in the kit along photo etched parts and excellent 3D computer drawn instructions.
