Moving one step closer to release is BMM's rendition of the Royal Navy's famed flattop!
**The webpage for this kit was taken down when I first wrote this News article. It does not appear that it will be up anytime soon, so I am posting this article without the boxart photo or active link. If you are interested in this kit, please keep a diligent eye on their website starting around March 2013. I will post any updated information as soon as they see fit to release to us.

1/350 HMS ARK ROYAL
WW11 BRITISH FLEET SERIES

Designed in 1934 to fit the restrictions of the Washington Naval Treaty, Ark Royal was built by Cammell Laird and Company, Ltd. at Birkenhead, England, and completed in November 1938. Her design differed from previous aircraft carriers. Ark Royal was the first ship on which the hangars and flight deck were an integral part of the hull, instead of an add-on or part of the superstructure. Designed to carry a large number of aircraft, she had two hangar deck levels. She served during a period that first saw the extensive use of naval air power; a number of carrier tactics were developed and refined aboard Ark Royal.
Ark Royal served in some of the most active naval theatres of the Second World War. She was involved in the first aerial and U-boat kills of the war, operations off Norway, the search for the German battleship Bismarck, and the Malta Convoys. Ark Royal survived several near misses and gained a reputation as a 'lucky ship'. The Germans incorrectly reported her as sunk on multiple occasions.
She was torpedoed on 13 November 1941 by the German submarine U-81 and sank the following day. Her sinking was the subject of several inquiries; investigators were keen to know how the carrier was lost, in spite of efforts to save the ship and tow her to the naval base at Gibraltar. They found that several design flaws contributed to the loss, which were rectified in new British carriers.
Her wreck was discovered by a BBC crew in December 2002, approximately 30 nmi (35 mi; 56 km) from Gibraltar.

Progress at last! It seems that BTM are commissioning their own 1/350 Ark Royal kit under their 'Sea Legends' banner. Their website states that only previous customers may place a pre-order though. They have also requested that no further info is available at this time, and to not bombard them with email inquiries until they make further announcements. See here - It's not cheap, but it's the only one in town so far! LINK

That is expensive, but perhaps demand will prompt other companies to get into Royal Navy carriers! On this side of the pond, Free Time Hobbies is announcing pre-orders for a 1:350 Atlanta from Dragon and 1:350 New York and Texas from Trumpeter. It's a good time to be into larger scale ships! --Karl

SCAM ALERT ! They do have the Graf Zeppelin in 1/200 by Lindberg on their site for pre-orders as of today. This kit has been placed on hold YEARS AGO ! Doug Ridge from Lindberg Models just confirmed that again ! Here is what a person that calls himself james summerby wrote: "...as for the lindberg model we have 10 of there kits which we bought from a source i will not divulge over the internet..." Besides bad grammar you will find this to be a blunt lie ! Same with the Yamato in 1/144, never released as a KIT and according to the manufacturer not even planned as a KIT !
